Mission
Our mission is to increase student achievement by effectively addressing the academic, linguistic and social needs of English language learners through Bilingual/ESL programs that are research-based and celebratory of student diversity.
Vision
At the Bilingual/ESL Department, our vision is to foster a culture of collaboration that advocates and ensures educational equity for the academic, linguistic and social success of all language

- To develop high levels of communicative and academic second language proficiency

STAAR and TELPAS Report Cards will be arriving home soon. To learn more on how to understand your child’s score, visit the Texas Assessment Family Portal. You will need a six-digit access code. If you are unable to locate the access code, you can reach out to your child’s school for the access code.

There is a certain amount of excitement and nervousness that each school year brings. We want you to know that we are here to support you during this time. This year stands out because our first group of students that started at Travis Primary have completed all 5 years of the DLE program and will be beginning their first year of middle school.

We are excited to have Merrie Smith at Travis Primary! She comes to us with TWO DECADES of experience, and she is a SSHS graduate!
"Hi, my name is Merrie Smith, and I am so excited to join the Travis Primary team as a kindergarten teacher this year!
I graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University with a B.A. in English and have taught for the last twenty years. My favorite grade is Kindergarten!
I grew up in Sulphur Springs and proudly graduated from SSHS. I enjoy reading and love to help students learn to read. I am so happy to get to work at Travis with our entering kindergarteners. Go Wildcats!"
2ND GRADE

"Hi, my name is Monique Marquez Jackson. This is my fifth year teaching, and I will be teaching 2nd Grade Dual Language at Travis Primary School. I am a proud, born-and-raised border town girl from Eagle Pass, TX. I graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I have taught in San Antonio at Northside ISD and Dallas ISD.
Sulphur Springs is my husband's hometown, and he is a dentist here. We moved to Sulphur Springs recently, and I am so grateful and excited for the new community, new district, and new experiences. Go Cats!"

"Hi, my name is Janie Parker. I am thrilled to begin my first year teaching Kindergarten at Travis Primary. I grew up in Sulphur Springs and attended school here as well. I graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors from Texas A&M University-Commerce in May after completing my bachelor's degree in Science with a major in Early Childhood through the 6th Grade Bilingual Generalist program. I have three beautiful children and have been married for fifteen years. I am very excited to begin the school year and meet all my wonderful students!"

We are happy to announce that Marisela Guillen will be teaching kindergarten at Travis Primary! Welcome to SSISD!
"Hello, my name is Marisela Guillen. I am super excited to teach Kindergarten at Travis Primary School. This will be my 10th year in education. I graduated from Texas A&M University-Commerce. I have been blessed with 4 wonderful children and I am a grandmother of an adorable grand-pup. I am originally from El Paso, Texas and have lived here in Sulphur Springs since 2007. I have a passion for teaching and can't wait to meet my new students."
4TH GRADE
We are happy to announce that Mrs. Robin Hall will be joining the Dual Language Program team at SSES!
Hello Wildcats, Robin Hall here and I am so excited to be joining the 4th grade DLE team at SSES. I will be starting my 22nd year of educating life-long learners and my 4th year back in my hometown of Sulphur Springs. I am a Texas Tech Red Raider as is my husband, Michael, and our 2 children and their spouses. Choose Joy and Let's Go Wildcats!
SUPPORT FOR ENGLISH LEARNERS IN TEXAS
English Learners are the fastest growing population in the state of Texas. In Sulphur Springs ISD, we service more than 700 students and families.
In order to provide support for families, teachers, leaders, and the community; the Texas Education Agency (TEA) has created a website of resources in which parents can translate into 6 different languages ( Arabic, Chinese, Burmese, Spanish, Urdu, & Vietnamese).
