JANUARY SENIOR BULLETIN
HAPPY NEW YEAR CLASS OF 2025!
Sgt. Ryan E. Doltz Memorial Foundation
Every year the SGT Ryan E. Doltz Memorial Foundation accepts applications for incoming and current college or technical school applicants. Unlike many scholarships, ours is not a merit based scholarship per se. For those of you familiar with Ryan, you know he was a person gifted with noble and honorable traits that are needed in our world today. Rather than basing our selection on people who have good grades, we focus more on the person and the qualities they exhibit. A desire to serve others, grit, determination, and honor were qualities that Ryan possessed and therefore those are the qualities we look for when evaluating applicants for the SGT Ryan E. Doltz Scholarship. If you care deeply about your friends, go the extra mile to accomplish the mission, or never give up in the face of adversity, you are a good candidate for the scholarship, regardless of your grades.
Scholarships are selected each year for graduates of any high school in Morris County, NJ, or any member or dependent of the New Jersey National Guard.
Morris County, NJ
Each year to continue the memory of Ryan and all he stood for, the SGT Ryan E. Doltz Memorial Foundation provides a scholarship to an incoming freshman who exhibits the qualities of Ryan Doltz. Any student planning to attend a 4-year college after graduating from a high school in Morris County, NJ, and who is a member of their high school band is eligible to apply. Preference is given to those students who have volunteered, served or intend to serve in either the Military or First Responders professions.
NJ National Guard
Each year to support those who sacrifice for our freedoms, the SGT Ryan E. Doltz Memorial Foundation provides a scholarship to either a member of the NJ National Guard or a dependent of a Guard member who will be continuing their education at a college or technical school.
Deadline: April 1, 2025

Nominating Teachers
- All students must list the name of their nominating teacher on the registration form. The role of a nominating teacher is to provide students with support and advice during the writing of their essay. Nominating teachers are also asked to read students' essays to make suggestions for improvement before they are submitted to the essay contest. As part of this review process, the nominating teacher reviews the essay for syntax, grammatical, typographical and spelling errors and ensures the essay meets the contest requirements listed above. The first place winner and his/her nominating teacher, as representatives of their school, will be invited to receive awards at the annual Profile in Courage Award ceremony held each May at the Kennedy Presidential Library in Boston.
- Nominating teachers can be former or current teachers, but must still be teaching at the same high school as the essay participant. Usually students ask their English or History/Social Studies teachers. In very few cases, we will make an exception if a student is unable to ask a teacher from their high school to be their nominating teacher. The parent or legal guardian responsible for the instruction of home schooled students can also serve as a nominating teacher.
