Middle School Retreat - Mon., 9/12 to Wed., 9/14
On Monday, our Middle Schoolers are off to retreat at The Outdoor School in the hill country where they will enjoy the outdoors and have fun, experiential activities making memories to last a lifetime.
Room Parent Info Coffee - Thur., 9/15 8:30 - 9:30 am
Please join the Parent Teacher Organization and school leadership for an informational coffee about becoming a class Room Parent on Thursday, September 15th. We will send out Room Parent sign-up information after the meeting.
Vision, Hearing, Spinal Screenings - Fri., 9/16
Texas state law requires that schools support the process of vision, hearing, and spinal screening in children. You may have these screenings completed by your family physician or you may opt to have vision and hearing screenings completed at AIS on Friday, August 16th for registered families. However, you must register by 9/15 to participate in the screenings being held on campus. Follow these steps below to register and review the included flier.
- Register here by September 15th
- Make sure to complete the online form and scroll to the bottom and hit submit
- The cost for these screenings is $30 payable to Capital Area Speech
Spinal screening applies only to a limited number of students on campus and those families have already been contacted directly about this requirement. If you have not received an email about spinal screening, then your child is not due for spinal screening this year.
MAP Assessments Begin - Mon., 9/19
Austin International School uses the Northwest Education Association's (NWEA) Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Growth assessment to track individual student growth during their time at AIS. Students in Kindergarten and up complete assessments three times per year, after which student growth data is shared with teachers and families. MAP Growth data points are important in identifying areas of strength and areas of focus for each student. As such, MAP forms an important part of the work that we do to support individualized student learning at AIS. The first round of MAP assessments will begin on September 19th. Stay tuned for more details regarding testing dates by class and review this video here for more information.
Parent Teacher Organization Meeting - Tue., 9/20 5:30 - 6:30 pm
All families are automatically enrolled in the school's Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Please join us for the first meeting of the year on Tuesday, September 20th at 5:30 pm in the Science Lab. The PTO will provide an overview of the year and conduct elections for the PTO Leadership positions. Nikl Burke, the PTO President, collected some officer interest at our Back to School Night event, however, please reach out at aispto@austinis.org to inquire further about the open positions and roles.
Health Forms Due - Thur., 9/29
Please remember that all student medical and health forms will be due on Thursday, September 29th. State law requires the school to provisionally enroll and/or temporarily exclude students who do not have forms up-to-date, so please ensure that a recent well check (i.e., issued within the last year) and updated vaccination records are on file. AIS required forms for Wellness Exams and vaccinations forms can be found here, but your family doctor can provide their own form of documentation (as long as it has the applicable date of wellness exam, signature of doctor, date, and any vaccines/hearing and vision screening results taken at that time).
Staff In-Service/No School - Fri., 9/30
We will not have school on Friday, September 30th due to a staff and faculty in-service day. We will see our campers for Fall Camp or the rest of our families after the Fall Break on Monday, October 10th.
Fall Break/No School - 10/3 to 10/7
The school will be closed for regular school with an optional, limited Fall Break Camp the first week of October. Stay tuned for more information and registration details about our Carnival, Circus, Circus, Extravaganza Fall Camp!
