MSM's Class of 2024 Celebrates Final Day of Classes!
Mounties in MSM's Class of 2024 celebrated their final official day of classes earlier this week with a class gathering and lunch in the MSM student parking lot. The countdown is now on for graduation on May 18th, where we will celebrate this wonderful group of students and their many accomplishments during their time here at MSM!
MSM French Classes Take the Trip of a Lifetime
From the Desk of Ms. Antoinetta Castaldo:
On March 28, a group of MSM students, parents, and chaperones embarked on an amazing nine-day voyage to France. While in France, we visited Paris' famed Eiffel Tower, toured the Louvre Museum, and navigated the Seine River on a "Bateau-Mouche," a French pleasure boat, to name just a few of our adventures!
As awesome as Paris was, the trip did not end there. This mighty group of 38 people between the ages of 14 and 70 traveled south to Orleans, the Versailles Palace (pictured below), home of French kings Louis XIV, Louis XVI, and Marie Antoinette, the cities of Tours and Toulouse, Rocamadour, a town carved into the side of a mountain whose church is home to the Black Madonna, and finally, a highlight of our trip, Lourdes, located at the foot of the Pyrenees Mountains in Southern France. Lourdes is the site of the 1858 apparition of our Blessed Mother to a young Saint Bernadette. A portion of the front lawn of Mount St. Mary Academy pays homage to this apparition.
This truly was the trip of a lifetime, an ambitious foray into some well-known and some not-so-well-known places in France so that students might experience a wide variety of regional French language and culture.
C'etait magnifique!
Spanish students, join us as we delve into the beauty and culture of Puerto Rico in February 2025! Old and New San Juan await us!
Intro To Statistics Classes Create School-Wide Surveys
From the Desk of Mrs. Anne Evangelos:
As part of their final project, students in Mrs. Evangelos's Introduction to Statistics class created and sent a survey to all MSM students and faculty. Some of the questions included: favorite place to get coffee, eye color, preferred mode of transportation, most common birthday months, and many more! Results were calculated from the responses of 199 students and 34 faculty/staff members. Students made posters to create a visual representation of the responses and presented the results to their class.
Below are just a few examples of their great work!
Help Support MSM's STEAM Classes With New or Gently Used Items
Attention MSM families! If you or anyone you know is tackling a spring cleaning project, please keep our STEAM classes in mind if you find any of the items listed below! Our STEAM classes will put these items to good use and your donations ensure that MSM's STEAM classroom remains a vibrant and well-equipped environment for learning.
We will gratefully accept donations of the following items:
- Knitting Supplies - Students will learn to knit and relate knitting to coding. Supplies required include old knitting needles, and balls of yarn (half used balls of yarn are perfect).
- Sewing Supplies - Students will engineer their own patterns and sew items for themselves and/or Barbie dolls. We need fun interesting fabrics, fat quarters, and thread. We would also greatly appreciate one or two unused sewing machines.
- LEGO - One of our goals for next year is to build a Rube Goldberg Machine out of LEGOS to enter the ECC Tech Wars Competition. We would be grateful for donations of old, unloved LEGOS sitting in basements; our STEAM students will put them to good use!
If you are able to donate, please send the items to school with your student. Thank you in advance for your continued support and dedication to our MSM STEAM programs!
