Classroom Spotlights
Each week we want to spotlight the amazing WG staff and the incredible things that are going on in our classrooms. Our spotlight will feature our staff showcasing the PISD Instructional Observation Points of Frequent Student Discourse, Meaningful Student Engagement, Effective Inquiry and Questioning, Constructive Feedback and Appropriate Use of Technology. Please check out the section below to see just a few examples. GO CATS!
AP Language and Composition
Ms. Dunn's AP Language and Composition class is learning to write nuanced thesis statements using paint color swatches. Students are researching a topic of interest to them and identifying a "pro," a "con," and possible ways that the two opposing arguments could either share similarities or could understand the opposing argument. Then, students write a counter-argument thesis statement to tie everything together before beginning their argument essay.
AP Language and Composition
Ms. Dunn's AP Language and Composition classes are practicing their argument skills using the most and least popular Halloween candies.
Hispanic Heritage Month Display
The hallway display shown below includes Spanish 2 and Spanish 3 students' work in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated September 15 - October 15 and is a month to recognize and honor the significant contributions Hispanic/Latino Americans have made in the United States. Hispanic Heritage Month does not cover one single month but instead begins in the middle of September and ends in the middle of October. In the wall display, there are student-created flags for Spanish-speaking countries as well as features and biographies of famous Spanish speakers from around the world!
Game Based Learning in Spanish
Students in Ms. Dichiara's Spanish classes have had fun playing with learning. Spanish 2 (video 1 & video 2) played The Clothes Game to remember and challenge each other with new vocabulary. Spanish 1 (video) played "Spoons" but with verbs rather than cards. Check out the linked videos to see it in action!
Earth Space Science Simulation
Students simulated the structure of the Earth's mantle in Coach Shelton's class.
