February Family Newsletter
Principal's Corner
Dear Hallsville Intermediate Families,
Welcome to February! I'm not sure how we got here so quickly! This month, our 5th graders will have their book fair. Visitors are welcome to come at lunch to visit the book fair with your student. We are also celebrating our wonderful counselors, Mrs. Harris (5th) and Mrs. Boyum (6th)! They are invaluable to student success at Intermediate. We are also appreciating our School Resource Officers, Officer Hill (5th) and Office Freeman (6th) on February 13th. Please encourage your student to show their appreciation to these employees this month! We are so thankful for each of them and their commitment to our students.
In February, students will be tracking their Wildly Important Goals (WIGs) they've set this week. We will move into a discussion about perseverance for this month. Not all goals are easy to accomplish. We will discuss the importance of persevering when things get difficult. There is a podcast called "The Art of Accepting Disappointment" I'm attaching below for you to review. Discuss these questions with your student: "What are some strategies to deal with disappointment?" and "What are your key takeaways from this episode?"
This month we will have our first round of state testing begin, the TELPAS test. Although this test is not for all students, it is still a state assessment and we will have to close campus to visitors due to this. Please see the list of closed campus dates below for all dates this semester.
Thank you for your support and partnership,
Jennifer Hoskins, Principal

2024-25 UIL Academics!
And we’re off…! Practices began in mid-September.
Hallsville JH will host the district meet on Saturday, February 1, 2025. This year, the 5th graders will join the 6th, 7th and 8th graders at the JH Meet. There will be nine schools, including three that are new to the district (Nacogdoches, Jacksonville and Lufkin) so the competition will be tough. That’s why we’re starting our practices a little earlier this year.
Talking Points
Talking Points- Communication is KEY!
HISD will have one Parent Communication App!
TalkingPoints
Hallsville Parents - We have heard your plea for streamlined communication across the district. Please say hello to "Talking Points" and say goodbye to multiple apps. and signing up for various classes to keep up with your kids.
This year we will be using TalkingPoints to connect families with schools in your home language. You will be receiving messages in the upcoming weeks from your child's principal and teachers. Please save the numbers in your contact list so that you can reach back out if you have any questions or concerns. Have a great school year!
