As always, please continue to post the day's agenda and make sure to include the standard being taught, learning objective, language goal, and the WASC instructional Strategy being utilized for the lesson. Please ensure alignment between the posted agenda and the lesson being taught that period. Your lesson should reflect the 4 Phases of Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Lesson Design. Feedback is logged in the MyPGS system. Please note, you are to reply to feedback via the platform within 2 weeks of the observation. Your observation will be finalized once the response is received. In some cases, your department administrator will schedule an observation debrief to discuss the lesson observed.

- Tutoring is free for all students in LAUSD and students can receive help at any time during the year directly from Tutor.com via their Schoology course. While students have access to this tutoring resource from home, teachers are also able to and are encouraged to embed it into their in-class intervention to support student learning in the classroom. As a proactive measure, every teacher is being asked to help their homeroom class access and tour the tutoring platform so that students are familiar with how to leverage this resource and support throughout the year.
- Teachers and students can now sign up for a Tiggbee account through Schoology.

CULTURE OF CARE
Arrive on time to school everyday to set yourself up for success and make the most of your learning opportunities.
ATTENDANCE MATTERS: EVERY DAY COUNTS
When YOU Attend, We ALL Win!
Ensure Your Child's Safety At All Times
Did you know that missing 15 or more days in the school year can leave students struggling throughout their academic career? School attendance is essential to academic success, but too often students and families don’t realize how quickly absences, excused or unexcused, can add up to academic trouble. Every school day counts and everyone can make a difference!
STAFF: INSTRUCTIONAL MOMENT
SUPPORTING SMALL GROUP INSTRUCTION
As you start analyzing your students' BOY iReady data and begin planning for small group instruction, consider how the structures you have in place can ensure 100% student engagement and foster cooperative learning. How can you leverage your existing systems to create an environment where every student is actively involved, collaborating effectively, and making meaningful progress? Consider implementing the following strategies to foster student collaboration and communication, including positive interdependence, individual accountability, equal participation and simultaneous interaction (PIES):
- Refocus signal: Students need reminders and redirection as they internalize the routines that will support their group learning. Implement a refocus signal for 3-5 seconds to help regroup students, especially as you bring them back from working in groups and to avoid talking over them. Reteach the refocus signal, as needed. Praise and incentivize students for successfully implementing the routines and procedures.
- Numbered seats: Each student, ideally four per team, has their own number (1-4) and a letter (either A or B). Tape each number to the student's desk. With practice, students quickly learn what number/ letter they are.
- Shoulder and Face Partners: Set up your tables so that students can quickly move into teams with a shoulder or face partner. As much as practically possible, students should not have their backs to the teacher.
- Clusters: Ensure your students are seated in clusters of 4. Groups of 3 or 5 are ok when 4 per group is not doable. As much as possible, ensure you plan for heterogenous grouping. Always monitor grouping structures and plans to ensure selected students work well as a team. Here are some tools to support student grouping structures.
- Seating: Set up students' desks so that students can easily work in groups, independently or with other teams, as needed. Arrangement will vary based on the classroom size and desk type.
- Interior Loop: Make sure your teams are set up with an "interior loop," a space which allows for circulation in the middle of the classroom and walking space that is in close proximity to all student groups. This will ensure your easy access to all students and help you gauge participation and student understanding.
Once you have these in place, the foundation is set to support student engagement using our Roybal’s WASC Instructional Strategies. To help support this work, you might also consider the use of the Kagan strategies learned at our retreat last year (resource #1 and resource #2).
