The FY24 Otter Valley Unified Union School District (OVUUSD) proposed budget of $24,174,395 is up 6.46%. This budget supports the programs and services at Lothrop Elementary, Neshobe Elementary, Otter Creek Academy at Leicester, and Otter Valley Union Middle & High School for 1125 PreK-12 grade students and aligns to our mission/vision, our global ends policy, and SU goals.
The proposed budget estimates the equalized homestead tax rate to go down 7cents or 5.81%, based on the VT Tax Commissioner's announced yield. The equalized homestead tax rate will be adjusted by each town's common level of appraisal (CLA). OVUUSD's, like most VT towns, CLA have declined and as the CLA declines the above equalized tax rate is adjusted up to reflect 100%. Therefore homestead tax rates, after town's CLA declines, are projected to increase between 2cents up to 15cents, depending on the town of residency. Leicester and Pittsford Select Boards have applied for re-determination of their CLA. This homestead tax rate is before any income sensitivity credits. The PTO Lip Sync Battle has been postponed till 3/24 to give acts more time to prepare and to allow more kids to enter. Students will be required to prepare a 90 second act. Here is a list of songs that have been approved in the past. Deadline for registration has passed.

Illness and Attendance
In an effort to assist families who are navigating illness and absences, the school nurse has put together the following guidelines. Please reach out to Melanie Parker, School Nurse if you have any questions or concerns.
Please keep your child home for at least 24 hours if they have:
1. Fever over 100.0 F (without Tylenol or Ibuprofen)
2. Vomiting
3. Diarrhea
Please also keep them home if they have:
4. Unidentified Rash
5. Uncontrolled Cough
{If your child requires Tylenol or Ibuprofen in the morning, it may be best to keep them home for the day.} If you are unsure of whether to send your child to school or not, please feel free to call the school and ask.
If your child has been absent for 10 days or more, the school nurse will be calling each additional day that your child is not in school. Absent days will be excused if:
a note from a medical provider is received or
a parent has spoken with the school nurse.

Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run contacted me this week to see if I would put out the word seeking GOTR coaches. While it is not a Lothrop sponsored program, we support the program by helping to communicate with families and by providing space in our gym and outdoor campus. Here is the information below. There will need to be 3 coaches in order for the program to run.
Volunteer to be a Girls on the Run coach for Lothrop School this spring! The impact of a Girls on the Run volunteer coach is as boundless as it is beautiful. The Girls on the Run programming is an after school program that uses a research based curriculum to empower, increase self-worth and spark joy in its participants.
Our 10-week season begins the week of March 27. Our team will meet twice weekly for 90 minutes each session to connect, move, learn and have FUN! Not a runner? Haven’t coached before? No problem! Girls on the Run VT (GOTRVT) provides training, easy to follow lesson plans, supplies and support from GOTRVT for a transformational season.
Visit gotrvt.org/coach to learn more or sign up to volunteer. Questions? Contact GOTRVT at Info@girlsontherunvermont.org or 802-871-5664. Ready to register? Sign up here.
Pittsford Reads
Pittsford Reads provides books for students at Lothrop in kindergarten through 3rd grade. Friends from the Pittsford Fire Department read to students and handed out free books for them to keep. The books were gifts from Omya, and brought to the students by Maclure and the Lothrop Library.
Reminders
Pants
The health office is very low on boys, elastic waist pants. Sizes 5-12 are needed. If you have some gently used pants, donations are appreciated.
Lothrop PTO
Lothrop PTO Needs Volunteers
A huge shoutout of thanks to the current volunteers and officers of the Lothrop PTO. Lothrop Learners are supported well by the PTO each year.
In April there will be a number of officer positions up for nomination on the PTO Board and they are always in need of members to help out with fundraising efforts and organization of events.
Monthly meetings are organized according to the pleasure of the Board and can be held fully virtual or a combination of virtual and in-person.
If you are interested in becoming a member or an officer, please reach out to the team through Lothroppto@rnesu.org
PTO Golf Tournament
The PTO will be holding a golf tournament to raise funds for the school. They are looking for businesses and families to sponsor holes on the course. If you are interested in sponsoring or finding sponsors, please contact lothroppto@rnesu.org.
