September 27, 2024
This week's Spirit Day 2024 Celebrations are guest written by Renee Breault, Activities Director and Julie Wockenfuss, Assistant Activities Director
Dear CVU Community,
We are still basking in the glow of another successful Spirit Day and wins across the board for our Redhawks. What a gorgeous weekend we had. Congratulations to Football, Girls V & JV Soccer, Boys V & JV Soccer, V & JV Field Hockey, Boys V & JV Volleyball on their wins over the weekend. Shout out to our Cross Country teams who were on the road - JV Girls took 1st out of 17 teams, JV Boys placed 10th out of 41 teams, V Boys placed 10th out of 36 teams and the V girls took 2nd out of 31 teams. Our Bass Fishing team participated in a tournament in South Hero and took 3rd place.
We want to thank everyone involved in making Spirit Day a successful celebration of our Fall teams--including our future Trevithick Redhawks. Let’s go Redhawks!
Cross Country had an incredible showing at the Manchester Invitational. The JV girls took home 1st out of 17 teams with all 5 scorers finishing in the top 11.The JV boys placed 10th out of 41 teams. Varsity boys placed 10th out of 36 teams and were the #2 team for Vermont. The Varsity girls went head to head with the runner up from last years New England Championships and came in 2nd out of 31 teams.
While many of our teams were busy participating in games at CVU on Spirit Day, our Bass Fishing Team was busy out on Lake Champlain participating in the VPA Classic. CVU came in 3rd out of 19 teams that entered in the tournament. The Redhawks will get back out on Lake Champlain on October 5th for the State Championship.
We want to recognize the importance of our Project Hoeppner games and thank the Hoeppners for the work they do to encourage our kids to speak up and ask for help. Student speakers helped spread the message during a small ceremony between the girl’s and boy’s soccer games.
Parent/Caregiver Conference Reminder:
On October 9th and 10th CVU will be hosting conferences for you and your students. Below is the link where you can access the sign up documents for your students' teachers. Directions are listed on the document. It may be helpful to make a schedule to keep track of who you are seeing, and when you are seeing them.
Conference Sign Up Link --> CLICK HERE, Link will be active Thursday night after CVU @ a Glance. Sign ups will close at 3 pm on October 6th.
One note on conference sign ups - please only sign up for teachers that are on your students' schedule, and note that the Humanities 10 courses are different from the individual courses taught by those same teachers (Ex. Chapman/Hindes Humanities 10 is separate from Chapman's AP English sign up). If your student is in 10th grade, use the Humanities 10 sign up document. The Core sign-ups are for 9th graders only.
Thank you for all you do and we look forward to meeting you!

From Anthony Spagnolo: Thank you to all who made CVU @ a Glance an immersive experience for our visiting families! And an extra kudos to the students who volunteered their time to help make an impact on really special night for our community!
Student Council Corner
Hello CVU! This is Mira. We are getting to the point, a couple weeks into the school year where we are all starting to get into a routine, and can already look back at the small body of work we’ve done and memories we have created. The same is for Student Council. With a few projects under our belt, groups who have worked on the past events of 9th Grade Elections, Rally, and the Senior Sunrise have since moved on to work on upcoming projects such as Club Fair, The Turkey Trot 5k and The Crystal Skull. This week we welcomed 2 new members to Student Council, 9th Grade representatives, Anika Zimakas and Gus Roden! As we add our final couple numbers to the mix, other students' positions as student reps in committees are coming into play. I am on Student Council as a Program Council Rep., so as well as coming to weekly Student Council meetings I also go to monthly Program Council meetings. Other juniors and seniors in Student Council represent student voices in other committees such as the Safety Committee, Travel Committee and Curriculum Clearinghouse Committee. Students involvement in school decisions is truly a testament to how CVU serves students in an environment created by their peers. We are just a few weeks in, the Student Council already has an impressive body of work, and we can’t wait to keep hosting fantastic events by and for the students in our school community.

Eye Testing at CVU
We will be conducting eye tests for all 9th and 12th graders at CVU. This is a state health requirement and an opportunity for your student to ensure that their vision is working at its best to help be a successful learner. This eye test helped diagnose one of our students with a rare degenerative eye condition that saved his eyesight with surgery over the past summer. It has proven to be worth taking time to perform.
The Lions Club will be visiting CVU on October 4th, October 7th, October 8th, and October 15th with a noninvasive vision machine that takes seconds to conduct. We will be testing all 9th graders in the core and offering the test to all 12th graders as they enter the school by the main office. Please discuss this with your student and remind them to take advantage of this opportunity.
Thank you - CVU Health Office
Dear CVSD Community,
Earlier this year, the CVSD school board announced the hiring of Adam Bunting as interim superintendent of our district for this school year. At the same time, we announced that we would conduct a thorough search for a permanent superintendent during the 2024-25 school year that included obtaining community input.
The board is pleased to announce that we have begun the process of identifying the next permanent superintendent of our district and extend an invitation to the community to get involved in the process. The search will be facilitated by CVSD’s Director of Human Resources (HR). Information about how to get involved is included on our website, https://www.cvsdvt.org/. Scroll down to the headline for the Superintendent Search.
Throughout the fall and early winter. we will provide the community with periodic updates on our progress. Thank you for your continued support of our schools.
Sincerely,
Meghan Metzler, Chair, CVSD School Board
Keith Roberts, Chair, CVSD HR Committee
