A Weekly Newsletter from Barlow Mountain Elementary School
Week of October 21st-25th
Dear BMES Community,
We hope everyone is enjoying the fall weather. We can't get enough of the sunny and mild days to be outside on the playground! Though the cold temperatures seem far away, please remember that children typically go outdoors every day for recess unless the weather/temperature is unusually severe, with a real feel nearing the single digits. Hats and gloves should be worn when we get to those lower temperatures. When the temperature is below 40 degrees, pants or shorts with underlayers should be worn. Dressing in layers is the best option.
We have some busy weeks ahead, including Halloween and our first Spirit Week of the year, and a whole school meeting focused on Veterans Day. We hope you will consider donating to United For the Troops. Be sure to take a look at all of the events and dates we have coming up.
Enjoy the week ahead!
Warm regards,
Becky & Caitlin

Meet the BMES Staff

Think!Mathematics Staff Developer, Sarah Schaefer, visited classes in 3rd, 4th, & 5th Grade with a focus on "Mind Workouts." Mind Workouts are a set of challenging math problems designed to actively engage the brain and develop critical thinking skills by pushing beyond routine calculations, often involving complex problem-solving strategies, logical reasoning, and creative approaches to find solutions.
Inspired by the book Ada's Violin, 3rd Graders went to the makerspace and used the NASA Design Engineering Process to create musical instruments out of recycled materials. Impressive!
Fifth Graders visited the Adventure Park for a fun team building field trip.
Thank you to our 5th Grade Team for this bulletin board making us the "I" in kind. Can you spot our special guest??
The artwork of select BMES Students, including 2nd Grader, Leo, was showcased at the RPS K-12 Art Show highlighting curriculum pathways in the visual arts from elementary to high school. Congratulations to Ms. Anderson and our RPS visual arts department on a successful show!
