Message From Our Principal
It has been a great second week of school, students are working hard daily to follow our SOAR expectations! We will continue our focus on the character trait of respect for the rest of September. I am happy to share that we are also celebrating Hispanic Heritage month as well, it ties in beautifully with respect.
The Hispanic Heritage observance began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988.
This year’s theme for Hispanic Heritage month is "Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation ''. Please notice the beautiful poster that is this year's theme poster. The artist, Ms. Ily Soares, wrote, "Hispanics in the United States are a diverse group who bring a rich combination of language, culture, educational backgrounds, and experience to the great American experiment. This diverse background brings with it a wealth of ideas and perspectives. One uniting factor within our Hispanic community is our desire to be included and represented in all aspects of American society. As has been proven, when different voices are sitting at the metaphorical table and included in key decisions, the entire community benefits from greater solutions that address concerns from all people. Whether it be education, government, business, or the environment, ensuring that all voices are represented provide results in better and more thoughtful decisions. These improved decisions support the greater good and minimize any negative impacts to marginalized communities and people of color. We call on citizens of this nation from all walks of life to look around and welcome new voices to the table. This will help us build stronger communities and in turn, a stronger nation."
At LRE we will be teaching students what this month means, we will be reading literature from Hispanic authors, and completing activities in class to grow in our knowledge of the Hispanic Culture. Please encourage your children to share what they are learning with you!

Family Assistance at LRE
Hello Thunder Eagle families!! My name is Andrea Grant, and this is my fifth year as your school counselor at LRE. One of my roles is community coordinator, meaning I get to connect people with the services they need! We have a variety of community assistance available to any student and family in need. We have partnerships with The Bonney Lake Food Bank, Operation Warm, Dorian Studios, The Big Give, Giving Tree, SBLSD Family Center, and more! Please use this survey to sign up for community resources if it would benefit your family.
Additionally, you may also use this form if you are interested in sponsoring a student for our LRE Holiday Giving Tree and I will contact you in November when it is up and running :)
Changes to Meal Programs
This school year, there are some important changes to meal prices. A national school meal waiver that provided free meals for all students due to the pandemic expired over the summer. This means that meals are no longer free for everyone.
We encourage families who may be eligible to apply for free meals. Applications can be found at sumnersd.org/meals.
Copies of forms are being sent home with all students in their folders and are now available in Spanish, Ukrainian, and Russian.
