LCE Trail Guide
August 26th, 2024
Liberty Creek Families,
As we begin a new school year, the CVSD Eastside elementary community is working on reducing distractions in classrooms and in our schools in order to increase students’ engagement in learning. We want to share an update to our practices on cell phones and smart watches in our buildings. Our primary goal is to create an environment where students can fully engage in their learning and social interactions without unnecessary distractions. Cell phones and smart watches are not going away, they are a part of our world as many of us and our students have them. Research has overwhelmingly shown that electronic devices, while valuable tools in some settings, can significantly disrupt focus and academic performance when used during school hours. Knowing this, here is how we plan to help our students stay focused on learning and minimize distractions.
We have implemented the following guidelines:
Device Storage: Please ensure that your child keeps their cell phone in their backpack, either turned off or on school mode, during school hours. This ensures that the devices do not interfere with classroom activities and learning time. Smart watches are not recommended as they are often in the student’s visual field and prove to be an serious distraction. If a student does have a smart watch, it will need to be in “school mode” during school hours. If a smart watch is not in school mode, it will be required to be put in their backpack.
Clear Expectations: At the beginning of the year, we will clearly communicate these policies to all students, ensuring everyone is on the same page and understands the expectations.
First Time Out: If a student is found using their device during school hours, they will receive a gentle reminder of the policy.
Second Time Out: Should it happen again, the teacher will hold onto the device until the end of the school day, as well as contact the parent or guardian.
Third Time Out: If a student repeatedly uses their device during school hours, it will be sent to the office, and a parent or guardian will need to come and pick it up.
Technology on the Bus: Technology can be used to listen to music, as long as the volume is at a reasonable level.
Before and After School: Students may use their phone & watches before entering the building and after exiting the building at the end of the day to connect with families. Once inside, they are off and stored in backpacks.
We believe that by limiting access to these devices during the school day, we can foster better concentration, engagement in learning activities, social interaction, and overall academic success. Your support in reinforcing these guidelines at home is crucial to making this policy effective.
Thank you for helping us create a distraction-free learning environment where all students can thrive.
Thank you,
LCE Administration and Staff

“We encourage you to complete the Child Nutrition Eligibility and Education Benefit Form to help ensure your school receives all the funding it is entitled to for educational programs, services, and benefits for students. It's more than just a survey or a free meal—it's about gaining benefits for your child, their friends, their teacher, the school, and the community! Your participation directly supports a range of valuable resources that enhance the educational experience for everyone involved.”
Bus Rider Registration
Thank you for expressing interest in having your student ride the school bus for the upcoming school year.
You will need to complete this Rider Registration Form for each student who intends to ride the school bus to and from school. You do not need to register your student if they are only riding during field trips and after school activities.
If your student lives within the Walk-Zone or is a "Choice" student, they may not be eligible to receive transportation.
Completing this form does not guarantee that your student will be provided transportation.
Fall Mini Cheer Camp
First Day of School Procedures
Each classroom will have a sign along the edge of the playground, near the building, with the teacher’s name. Students may line up their backpacks in front of their classroom sign and play until they hear the whistle signifying the time to line up.
PreSchool (September 10th)
On the first day, parents can join their child by parking in the visitor parking lot and walking to the front of the school to meet your child's teacher.
Kindergarten (September 10th)
On the first day, parents can join their children on the playground. The teachers will come out to gather their class, and parents can walk with them into the classroom to help get them settled into their new environment. Once again, the children will wave goodbye as they begin their day together. At this time, we ask parents/guardians to exit the front of the building. We have an incredibly supportive staff that will be on hand to help students as they adjust to their classroom for the first time.
1st-2nd Grade (September 5th)
On the first day, parents can join their children on the playground. The students will line up once they hear the whistle, and their teacher will join them to take them into their class. Before entering the building, the children will wave goodbye to their parents/guardians and head into their classrooms.
