The Hough main entrance, along Lake Street, has an exciting, new look! The North side of the school is now “wrapped” in Hough Street School branding. We can see out of the glass, but the inside of the school is not visible from outside. Our students are loving the new look and are amazed at the one way visibility element.

Many states, including Illinois, have passed a law with the intent of increasing awareness of child sexual abuse. You may have heard of this legislation under its more common name, Erin’s Law, in honor of Erin Merryn, a young woman who has traveled across the country advocating for laws that will increase awareness of this crime against children. One of the requirements of this law is that schools provide an age-appropriate curriculum to all students relating to sexual abuse prevention. The purpose of the lessons is to provide students with the tools they need for personal safety and to help them build confidence in advocating for themselves.

The Prairie Derby, a half-mile elementary school running race open to all Barrington 220 elementary students, is this Saturday, April 15! No previous experience is necessary. Registration takes place on race day (cost is $5 per runner). Please arrive by 1:30 pm. The race begins at 2 PM on the Barrington High School track. Please direct questions to Prairie Track and Field Coach, Jim Bartlett, at jbartlett@barrington220.org.

Hough Student Council is inviting all Hough Street Students to participate in an evening volunteer activity at FMSC in Schaumburg, IL. K-2nd grade students must have a parent chaperone with them at all times. Students in grades 3rd-5th will need one adult, per three students. We strongly encourage carpooling to this event. Please plan to arrive at 740 Wiley Farm Court in Schaumburg, IL no later than 4:15 to check in. The activity begins at 4:30 pm. We started April out with gusto. Hough students are demonstrating the new Pride Board category, Initiative and Self-Drive, every single day! Congratulations to these 22 students for working hard to demonstrate these new skills.

Hough celebrated its Build 220 construction project with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier this week.
