Welcome To Week 23!
Diamond Bar High School and the Walnut Valley Unified School District are proud to recognize Black History Month as we continue to provide our organization with resources to celebrate diversity while building equitable and inclusive practices for our community.
Dear Brahma Family,
Congratulations to our Winter Sports athletes! Our Girls Basketball has an impressive overall record of 22-4, and went undefeated (10-0) in league. They are back-to-back Hacienda League Champions, and will host a first-round CIF game at home against Eisenhower High School this Thursday, February 8 at 7:00 p.m. Come out to cheer on the Brahmas this Thursday night!
Our Girls and Boys Wrestling teams are gearing up for the CIF Individuals on Friday, February 9. Our Girls Water Polo team finished in third place in the Hacienda League and is headed for a first-round CIF playoff match in Temecula against Chaparral High School this Tuesday, February 6 at 5:00 p.m. Our Girls Soccer team played hard all year, suffered some tough losses in league, and finished in 5th place. Our Boys Soccer team finished league in second place and is ready for a first-round CIF playoff game at Dunn School in Los Olivos, just outside Santa Barbara, this Wednesday, February 7 at 3:00 p.m. Our Boys Basketball team finished league in third place and will travel to Agoura Hills for a first-round CIF playoff game against Oak Park High School on Wednesday, February 7 at 7:00 p.m.
Each February, we recognize and celebrate Black History Month. This is a time for us to honor the contributions of African Americans throughout history and to reflect on their achievements. Black History Month is not only an opportunity for our students to learn about the individuals and events that have shaped our nation, but it is also a chance for us to appreciate the diversity that makes our school special.
This week is National School Counseling Week. We recognize and express our gratitude to our GLCs who do so much more than traditional school counselors. Their dedication is appreciated not only this week but every day of the year.
Wishing a Happy Lunar New Year to all celebrating this Saturday! According to the Chinese zodiac, 2024 is the Year of the Dragon.
Leave early, drive safely, and stay safe in the rain. I hope everyone has a fantastic week!
Sincerely,
David Hong

English Language Testing
Hello DB Parents and Guardians,
If your child is taking the ELPAC (English Language Proficiency Assessments for California) test at DBHS, they are scheduled to take the ELPAC exam on the following dates based on their grade level:
9th grade: Monday, February 5 at 8:30 a.m.
10th grade: Tuesday, February 6 at 8:30 a.m.
11th grade: Wednesday, February 7 at 9:15 a.m. (Late Start)
12th grade: Thursday, February 8 at 8:30 a.m.
The ELPAC exam is a test that will measure your child’s progress in learning the English language. The ELPAC will test their abilities in reading, writing, listening and speaking. They will also take the district writing assessment during this testing period.
Please carefully read the directions below and review it with your child as it will provide important information about their ELPAC test. A copy of this notification letter has also been sent to your child’s school email:
Report to the testing location, the Golden Horseshoe in room #905 (the old band room) on the day of your test. DO NOT go to your period one class.
Bring your student ID card.
Chromebooks and headphones will be provided for you at the testing center.
The test will take approximately 3.5 to 4 hours. When you finish with your test, you will be excused to go back to your class based on your schedule.
Bring your backpacks and personal belongings with you for later in the school day. You may not use a cell phone or any notes/materials from your classes during the ELPAC test.
This test is important because it is one of the criteria used to determine your child’s readiness to reclassify out of the ELD Program. Please make sure they get a good night’s rest and eat a healthy breakfast.
They may prepare for the ELPAC by taking some of the online practice tests. Click on this LINK!
If you have any questions about the ELPAC, please email Mrs. Cho (echo@wvusd.org). We look forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks for the ELPAC! Good luck!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Cho
