The SUMMER Scoop
Chugach Optional Elementary Newsletter - Summer 2024
Message from Joel
I would like to wish all of our Chugach Families and staff a safe and happy summer. Despite the heavy snowfall this year, I must say it has been a great year for Chugach. We welcomed a number of new families, kept our 6th-graders here at our school, and celebrated our 50th anniversary. Thanks to Jennifer Flannigan and Leslie Schroyer for organizing the group of parents who organized that event. I would also like to take this time to say goodbye to Casey. If you did not already know, Casey has decided to stay at home to be with her family, and while we're sad to see her leave as a staff member at Chugach, we are glad that she will continue to be a Chugach parent and volunteer. We are also glad to welcome Angie Riley into our upper group team. Angie comes to Chugach Optional from the Chinook Optional program and will be an excellent addition to our Chugach family.
Joel

ONLINE REGISTRATION for 2024-2025
THANK YOU to everyone who has already completed online registration for next school year!
We are up to 204 students (84.6%) registered for the 2024-2025 school year. WOW!
Have you registered your returning Chugach Student Yet??
Early online registration is important for a number of reasons. First, this is the main metric used by the district when looking at the number of teachers at each school. To retain our 11 family group teachers we need to show we have a sufficient number of students returning. Additionally, our Family Group lists can not be finalized for next school year until we have everyone registered.
Please call the office (907-742-3730) if you need help recalling your PIN for Parent Connect. Phellisha and Carrie will be in the office until Friday, May 31st to assist you. If you have your PIN, but can't recall your password, please use the "Reset your Password" feature on the Parent Connect landing page.
Once in Parent Connect, there will be a link to register your student under the "ASD Quick Links" tab. It will say "Online Registration 2025 Incomplete" in red. You will know you have successfully registered your student for 2025 when the message in your "ASD Quick Links" tab turns to green and says "Online Registration for 2025 Complete".
If you know for sure you will not be returning, please let the front office know so that more seats can be made available to incoming families through the lottery process.

If there are any changes in your child’s health, please share with me. A new diagnosis or starting a new prescription medication
is help for myself and staff on a need-to-know basis.
@ our Library
Summer Reading!
Throughout the school year, when we have ‘check-out’ time, we call it ‘love of library’.
During this time, we check out books, read books, explore books that we haven’t looked at yet.
I want to encourage students and families to continue their ‘love of library’ throughout the summer.
This could be reading books from your home, reading books from our public library or e-books online. This will support your reader to continue to grow.
Anchorage Public Library
Our public library has tons of books as well as sponsoring the Summer Discovery program.
ASD
ASD has e-books and audiobooks available for our students.
@ home
Here’s an idea! Start a family book club. Choose a book and invite family members to join - invite grandparents or family/friends from Outside to join you. You can ‘zoom’ and talk about the book together.
Missing library books
Thank you for continuing to look for any missing library books over the summer.
We will revisit this in August when we come back to school.
Here’s hoping you have a safe and joyous summer…
Many thanks!
Amy
