GOOD EVENING, VIKINGS!
Term 1 report cards were emailed today. For Term 2, weekly progress reports will begin next week. After the first progress report is sent, parents will have the option to customize the delivery day and time or opt out of receiving them.
Here a glimpse at next week's schedules:
Mon: Regular Schedule
Tue: Regular Schedule
Wed: Collaboration Schedule
Thurs: Minimum Day Schedule w/ Spring Term Welcome
Fri: Extended FLEX Schedule to accommodate TAP Performance
Spring Term Welcome is THURSDAY
Join us for our STHS Spring Term Welcome next Thursday! We'll start with student performances by the Jazz Combo at 4:45 in the Blue Gym, followed by a welcome address at 5:15. Period 1 begins at 5:35, with 20-minute class periods (10 minutes each for A/B schedules) and 5-minute passing periods. The full schedule is below.
We're also excited to welcome all parents of 8th-grade students that same evening for a tour, a "High School 101" session with our Counseling Team, and an informational meeting for TWBI students. If you know any 8th-grade parents, please encourage them to attend!
Parent needed for School Site Council
We're looking for a parent to join the School Site Council (SSC). One of our parent representatives recently had to step down, leaving a vacancy. If you're interested in participating, please email Mr. Zunino at jzunino@ltusd.org for more information. If more than one parent expresses interest, we'll hold an election so parents can vote for the new representative.
RERUN: An Important Message to Families
LTUSD is committed to creating a safe and supportive learning environment where all students can thrive. We believe all students have the right to learn and grow in a safe and inclusive environment, and we are dedicated to protecting their rights and ensuring their well-being while they are in our care. All families are welcome in our schools.
Recent policy changes at the federal level may be causing anxiety for some families, particularly those with concerns about immigration status. However, it's crucial to remember that California strongly protects the rights of all immigrants, including undocumented individuals. The California Constitution guarantees every student, regardless of their immigration status, the right to a free public education. Furthermore, California law prohibits schools from inquiring about a student's immigration status and generally prevents them from sharing this information with federal authorities without a court order or legal obligation. This ensures that all students, regardless of their immigration background, can attend school safely without fear of being reported, interviewed, or detained by immigration authorities without a valid warrant.
Our staff has been actively discussing this issue and the potential stress it may be causing for our families. We understand that the threat of immigration enforcement can significantly impact a student's ability to learn and thrive.
If you have any concerns about your student's safety or well-being at school, please do not hesitate to contact me directly. I am here to listen to your concerns and work with you to ensure your student feels safe and supported by South Tahoe High School.
Proud to be a VIKE!
