A MESSAGE FROM YOUR EXECUTIVE BOARD

Hi Comets!

It’s October…which (until just yesterday) has meant NOT MUCH when it comes to the weather…but A LOT when it comes to CCE PTA. We have been busy kicking off our Reflections program, Math Pentathlon and our CCE WATCH D.O.G.S. program. Plus, encouraging healthy lifestyles by walking and rolling to school, parading through town as Plants vs. Zombies, and serving up a FEAST for our CCE staff.

Next up is the CCE Trunk or Treat! Please consider rallying some friends and decorating a trunk…any sort of traditional Halloween décor to themed trunks are welcome (and we really do need more trunks – sign up link is above and again below).

There are a ton of ways to get involved with PTA (volunteer links above) and your support makes all of our programs and events possible – from people behind the scenes to those volunteering at our events…there is something for everyone!

COMING UP NEXT

Trunk or Treat

It’s time to clean out the trunk of your car, dust off your candy bucket and pick out your Halloween costume! That’s right…CCE Trunk or Treat is coming up NEXT WEEK on Friday, October 25.

Students can wear (non-scary) costumes for the Trunk or Treat and some fun photo ops. Trunks will be set up in the parking lot facing Boulder for students to visit.

Host a Trunk!

We are hoping to make Trunk or Treat a fantastic event again this year, so we are looking for families, students and staff who are willing to host a trunk! Our goal is to have 30 participating trunks, right now we have 9.

Please be creative (and not too spooky). Your trunk can be themed after a favorite book or movie, a toy or a board game, or something festive for the season. Students can participate by handing out prizes or treats and running Trunk activities. For more information and to sign up to host a trunk, click HERE or on the event flyer!

Other Volunteer Needs

We are truly so thankful for such a supportive and active community. This event couldn't happen without the willingness of our volunteers to decorate, dress up, coordinate and host trunks for our students! Please thank your trunk hosts when you visit them. Additionally, there are other opportunities to be involved in the evening if you’re not hosting a trunk where we could REALLY use your help. Please sign up HERE if you are able! More hands makes it possible for us to put on these great events that promote unity, growth and connection within our community. Thank you for serving our wonderful school.

PTA REFLECTIONS

Reflections is a National PTA program whose purpose is to provide an opportunity for students to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their own original work.

The theme this year is “Accepting Imperfection” and students are asked to interpret that theme in their work in the art categories of:

Music composition
Film production
Literature
Photography
Visual arts
Dance Choreography

LOOK WHAT WE'VE DONE!

WESTWOOD HOMECOMING PARADE

What. A. Night. at the Westwood Homecoming Parade!

The CCE PTA "Plants Vs Zombies" Float brought so much fun, energy and Comet spirit to the streets!

This float was a stunning work of art! Seriously…Check out the talent in these paintings! And a huge thank you to our Service Chair and three-time CCE Float Lead, Jessica Kirker. Jess has put so much time and energy into making our presence in the parade a huge success over the past three years. And this is just one of the many ways that she serves our school so well.

To all of the participating students and families who built the float, dressed up, tossed candy to the crowd, rode/walked next to the float, and cheered from the streets - THANK YOU! We are Comet Strong thanks to each and every one of you!

WALK AND ROLL TO SCHOOL DAY

Thank you to everyone that “Walked and Rolled” to school on October 2! It was so fun to see everyone out in the morning and to see the bike rack full! We also want to extend a big “thank you” to the Westwood PALS who came out so early to pass out stickers and bracelets to participants. It was a great start to the day!

WATCH D.O.G.S. KICKOFF + FAMILY FUN NIGHT

We had a swinging good time with so many of you at the WATCH D.O.G.S. Kick Off and Family Fun Night on October 2. Attendance was DOUBLE what we expected! Thanks so much to everyone who came out and showed support for the WATCH D.O.G.S. of Canyon Creek Elementary.

Friday Feast

PTA served up a taco bar from Torchy’s Tacos and some yummy Tiff’s Treats cookies for our CCE Teachers and Staff at our first Friday Feast of the school year. We’re asking each grade level to help host one feast, next up is FOURTH GRADE on Friday, November 1. (This is a staff development day, students out of school). Sign up HERE

You'll find info about school programs, fun activities, spirit nights, volunteer opportunities, teacher appreciation and more. You don’t have to be a GMS PTA member to join, but if you’d like to join Grisham PTA, you can do that here.

VOLUNTEER AT CCE

To volunteer at Canyon Creek Elementary in any capacity, you must first fill out a volunteer application with the school district. This includes volunteering with PTA, chaperoning field trips, helping in the classroom or working with students. A new application must be submitted each year for the current school year and can take up to a week to be fully approved.

Save the date for the fall Book Fair on November 11-15

Our amazing Mrs. Bamford is scheduled for knee surgery on November 20, and she will return in January after her recovery. Please consider volunteering in the library and giving her tons of support to make the library thrive while her knee is being put back in order!

RRISD CLOTHES CLOSET

The RRISD Clothes Closet is in desperate need of boy’s pants/sweat pants in all sizes ranging from 4T - XLG, and juniors/men’s coats.

Additionally, if you’re interested in signing up to help at the Clothes Closet (2 hour shifts), please sign up here.
