School Safety Lockdown Drill is September 10th
As required by the Illinois School Safety Drill Act (105 ILCS 128/20), during each academic year, schools must conduct a law enforcement lockdown drill. This drill shall be no later than 90 days after the first day of each school year.
Law enforcement lockdown drills must be conducted on days and times when students are normally present in the school building and must involve participation from all school personnel and students present at school at the time of the lockdown drill. The appropriate local law enforcement agency shall observe the administration of the lockdown drill.
Also required by the Illinois Safety Drill Act, we must notify you about the upcoming law enforcement lockdown drill and provide an opportunity for you to opt your child out of the drill.
The law enforcement lockdown drill will take place at Prairie Campus on Tuesday, September 10th at 2:50 p.m. If you wish your student to be exempted from the law enforcement lockdown drill, please complete this Google Form.
Note Now Required for Medical/Dental Absences
Due to a change in school code by the Illinois State Board of Education, this year a medical note is required from parents/guardians who select the: “MEDUE: Medical/Dental Appointment” excuse option for their student in Infinite Campus or call their student out of school for a medical/dental appointment.
The revised school code defines "valid cause" for an absence as any of the following:
- illness, including the mental or behavioral health of the student;
- attendance at a verified medical or therapeutic appointment;
- appointment with a victim services provider.
Please note that the student’s absence will be marked "unexcused" in Infinite Campus until a note is provided. If the student is not returning to school on the day of the appointment, it can be brought to school the following day.
We understand this is a change in practice from previous years. Please know that our front office is here to help answer any questions or concerns you may have.
Back to School Night is September 10th
Please join us from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday the 10th for Back to School Night. Be sure to print a copy (or have it on your phone) of your child's schedule so you can follow along in their footsteps!
Referendum Community Information Meetings This Month
During the first half of 2024, more than 2,500 community members collaborated on a plan to continue to improve Barrington 220's aging school buildings. The final $64M community-driven plan will go to you, the voter, for approval as a referendum question on this November 5 election ballot. If successful, the referendum will:
- Increase safety & security throughout Barrington 220
- Build a new community auditorium at Barrington High School
- Enhance STEAM and instructional spaces for students (This includes modernized science lab classrooms at the middle school level to effectively implement current and future curriculum.)
Join us at one of our upcoming community meetings to learn more about the referendum, tour current spaces, and see why these improvements are needed:
- 6 PM Monday, 9/9 at Barrington High School
- 6 PM Wednesday, 9/18 at Station Campus
- 6 PM Thursday, 9/19 at Barbara B. Rose Elementary
- 12 PM Saturday, 9/28 at Barrington High School (immediately following the Homecoming parade)
