Lumberjack Log
June 2024; Last Newsletter of the year from Ms. Kolarik
Dear Woodside Families,
As we wrap up another incredible school year, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to all our supportive parents and guardians. Your collaboration has been crucial in fostering your children's success. The positive feedback and heartwarming messages I've received about our school's opportunities, staff, and/or policies have been truly inspiring. Please feel free to continue to provide feedback for us via this link.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to our exceptional faculty and staff as well. Their dedication, hard work, and the enthusiasm they bring to their roles every day make all the difference. If you have a moment, please join me in expressing your appreciation for their incredible efforts. Though this school year is wrapping up with classes concluding with an early dismalls at 1 PM this Tuesday, our dedicated faculty and staff will also soon be preparing for the upcoming school year. Many will be involved in summer programming, setting up classrooms, participating in professional development, planning for the fall, and hopefully-- some well-deserved time to recharge. Our school district will also continue to stay busy over the summer. This year, we're excited to host elementary summer school right here at Woodside from June 10-28.
I also want to take a moment to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our incredible Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO). This dedicated group of parents has worked tirelessly throughout the years to enhance our school community and provide enriching experiences for our students. A special thank you goes out to those parents, whose unwavering commitment and countless hours of volunteer work in and for our school have made a significant impact. Your efforts in organizing school events, fundraisers, volunteering in classrooms and throughout the building, creating bulletin boards and supporting our teachers and staff have not gone unnoticed. You have truly made Woodside a better place for our children to learn and grow.
As we look ahead to the next school year, I warmly invite all parents to consider joining the PTO. We meet virtually once a month for no more than an hour, making it convenient for even the busiest schedules. There are numerous opportunities to get involved, many of which do not require your presence during the school day. While we do have roles that involve being in the building, there are also plenty of tasks that can be done from the comfort of your home.
It truly amazes me how many opportunities we have for parents to engage with our school, and though we often see the same dedicated 6-10 parents stepping up, we'd love to have more! Your participation, whether big or small, makes a difference. It's a wonderful opportunity to be more involved in your child's education, meet other parents, and contribute to the vibrant community that makes Woodside so special. Together, we can continue to create a nurturing and supportive environment for our students. Thank you once again to our amazing PTO members for all that you do. I look forward to seeing many new faces join us next year!
I encourage you to keep the learning spirit alive over the summer, whether your children are enrolled in summer school or not. Activities like reading books, visiting the library, and participating in community programs are fantastic ways to support your child's development. Further in this newsletter, you'll find a list of community resources and information about our district's summer school, as well as details in the "Upcoming Events" section.
I'm looking forward to welcoming our returning and new students at our Open House on Wednesday, August 28 from 3-5:15. Information about how to be active in PTO will be available. Details on how to sign up will be sent out in mid-August. The 2024-25 school year officially begins on Tuesday, September 3. Until then, I wish you and your family a joyful and relaxing summer!
Yours in Partnership,
Julie Kolarik, Principal
Class of 2031
I find this class extra special as my first year at Woodside was theirs as a kindergartner--and what an amazing journey it has been. It's been a pleasure leading this school and working alongside such a committed group of students, caring staff, and supportive parents. I, and all of our staff, are so pleased with how far they have come and just being part of their "glows and grows" in the beginning of their educational journey. Whether they were with us in 4K or just joined us, "Once a Lumberjack, always a Lumberjack!" (I love to see posts of our 5th graders with their yard signs on FB--please add!) We look forward to their visits back as they grow into the teenagers, then the young positive adults we know they are all destined to be; and of course, coming back in the year 2031 (!!!) to share their high school graduation with us.
Best wishes to the Class of 2031!
Looking Forward
Reminders of updates for the 24-25 school year;
- Our district has updated start times on Mondays to better support our students. The school day on MONDAYS for our Lumberjacks is 9:30-3:30. Students can be dropped off starting at 9:15. If you have a student aged 5, we are able to provide supervision for our late start Mondays (only) from 8:20-the start of the day. Once students turn six and if they still need care, they must contact the Boys and Girls Jumpstart program. Please fill see the flyer in this newsletter for more details and fill out this form if you need care for late start Mondays for your 5 year old. If you have students aged 6 and older who need before school care on any or all the days of the week, and you are interested in before school care at Woodside, contact the Boys and Girls Club to learn more about the Jumpstart programming. Students aged 5 are not eligible for the Boys and Girls Jumpstart programming.
- The school day on TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY for our Lumberjacks is 8:45-3:30. The earliest drop off time is at 8:30. Our 4K, 4th, and 5th graders head right to their classes, 2nd and 3rd graders play on the front playground until the first bell, kindergartners and first graders play on the back playground until the first bell. ALL students are dropped off in the front at the start of the day. If you must drive your child to school, please stay in your lane, be patient, and turn right upon exit of the parking lot.
- Drop-offs and Pick Ups; All 4K-5th grade beginning of day drop-offs and end of day pick ups will be in the front of the building. Students walking or biking are dismissed after all the pick ups are done. If you must drive your child to school, please stay in your lane, be patient, and turn right upon exit of the parking lot. There is no supervision prior to 8:30, so no students should be on campus until then. School ends at 3:30 and that is when pick up starts. Please make sure your family name tag is visible in the side window. (You are welcome to make your own, use one from previous years or use the one the school will make our new students, our 4K students, and our kindergarten students.)
Retirement Congratulations to two of our teachers; Mrs. Erdmann & Mr. Sigourney and one of our educational assistants, Mrs. Schiesser!!
We are both proud and saddened to announce the retirement of three members of our Woodside Family: Mrs. Erdmann, Mr. Sigourney, and Mrs. Schiesser. Their dedication and hard work have left an indelible mark on our community.
Mrs. Erdmann has been a cherished member of our district for 36 years. Throughout her tenure, she has undertaken various roles, most recently as a vital part of our fourth-grade teaching team. Her deep knowledge, structured approach, and unwavering support for her students have made her an invaluable asset. Mrs. Erdmann’s presence will be profoundly missed by students and colleagues alike.
Mr. Sigourney has been connected to Woodside for much of his life, having been a student here before returning to serve the community in 1987. Primarily a fifth-grade teacher, he spent his last two years as our school engagement coordinator. Mr. Sigourney’s calm, supportive demeanor and dedication to preparing our fifth graders (and all our students) for their future educational journeys have earned him the respect and affection of the entire Woodside community. His contributions will be fondly remembered.
Mrs. Schiesser has been one of our incredible educational assistants, working tirelessly in various classrooms to support our students with disabilities since 2017. Her efforts and commitment to student success have significantly impacted the learning environment at Woodside.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Erdmann, Mr. Sigourney, and Mrs. Schiesser for their remarkable service and dedication. We wish them all the best that retirement can bring and hope they find joy and fulfillment in this new chapter of their lives.
Thank you, Mrs. Erdmann, Mr. Sigourney, and Mrs. Schiesser! Your legacy will continue to inspire us all.
Class Placements for 2024-25
The unique needs of each individual student are considered as the class lists take shape. The teachers and other professionals that work with your child have been collaborating with administration throughout May and June and have begun creating the new class lists. The lists are modified throughout the summer as students and staff transfer in and out. Your child's classroom teacher will be shared out at the end of August and will not be on the June progress report. Our goal is to achieve the most appropriate and beneficial placement for all children.
Thank you for your support so that we can make the best possible placements for all children.
Welcome to our New WRPS Teachers!
Ms. Mancl will be joining our dynamic kindergarten team of Mrs. Knoeck and Mrs. Sondalle. We are proud that one of our Lumberjacks is coming back home! Ms. Mancl was a student at Woodside and did her student teaching in our district-including Woodside!
Mr. Martineau will be joining the wonderful Ms. Chojnacki in fourth grade (we will have 2 sections of 4th and 2 sections of 5th grade next year). Mr. Martineau will be joining us from teaching in Nekoosa and also will coming back home as he was a former student teacher at Woodside as well.
Mr. Tikalsky will be joining the talented Mr. Hoth in physical education, though most of his time will be spent at Grove Elementary, we will still consider him a Lumberjack! He is coming back to Central Wisconsin from teaching in Manitowoc.
Once a Lumberjack, Always a Lumberjack!
