Franklin Academy
Week of 9/9/23
A message from Principal Fox
Week three is complete and most of our students have taken their beginning of year assessments. Our staff now moves into data analysis mode to ensure we are working on each child's academic path. Students will now work on their Growth Measure that will set their Waggle path for instruction/intervention/enrichment. Waggle is an activity students interact with at school and at home.
Thank you to all who came out to our Book Fair family night yesterday! Students will be visiting book fair the next two weeks and Reading with Principal will take place as well. Details below.
On Monday, 9/11-Patriot Day, we will participate in the National Moment of Silence at 8:46. Our doors will be closed from 8:40-8:50AM. Students may wear red/white/blue/patriotic tops with their uniform bottoms.
On Tuesday, 9/12, we begin our Open House sessions with MYP. Open House will be in the cafeteria with all MYP staff as well. We start promptly at 5:30PM. 4th and 5th grade Open House sessions will also take place in the cafeteria this week.
Week of the 18th, we will hold K-3 Open House sessions in the classrooms; only ONE adult per child as that's all the seating provided in each of the rooms.
Reminder that Open House events are for parents/guardians only, children should not attend.
If you cannot attend, all Open House presentations will be emailed.
Picture Day is on Wednesday, 9/13, all students will have their picture taken for the yearbook and the school-issued IDs. K-5 students who have PE on Wednesday will wear their REGULAR uniform, NOT PE uniform.
Carline is definitely smoother as most families are following procedures, have DashPass open, and their placards displayed. This coming week, I'll be back at the park to ensure both items are present as we do not want delays in carline; our goal is to safely and efficiently operate carline. Carline reminders will remain on the weekly newsletter for your reference.
Picture Day - Wednesday, 9/13
All students will have their picture taken for the yearbook and the school-issued IDs. K-5 students who have PE on Wednesday will wear their REGULAR uniform, NOT PE uniform.

Peace Week 9/18-9/22
We incorporate the 'Start With Hello' initiative as well where we review the goals of the program with all students. We teach students how to recognize loneliness/social isolation in their peers and help by using our Buddy Benches around campus. Our School Counselor, Ms. Grullon, will review the purpose of our Buddy Benches during Peace Week with all grade levels.
Florida Heiken Children's Vision Program
This is open to Florida students with low income households each school year.
CARLINE REMINDERS...
Please remember that each placard you were given is to be cut in half so you can place the other half in another vehicle. If you need more than the two we provided you, please email Ms. Gibson with the request. gibson.tamera@franklin-academy.org. If you are having issues with DashPass, you can contact our Director of School Operations, Mr. Williams as well. williams.demon@franklin-academy.org.
Our biggest hurdle has been vehicles arriving before their designated pickup time. Broward Sheriffs Office (BSO) WILL ticket you for arriving early. The arrival times are listed on the back of your original placard for easy reference, are in our Parent/Guardian/Student Handbook, and were part of your registration when you completed and initialed every item of the School Contract. ***Rock Creek is NOT a staging area to line up before 2PM. There is NO staging area at all.
K-5 Dismissal: Arrive at 2PM to begin entering campus, students will be released at 2:15.
MYP (6th-8th) Dismissal: Arrive at 3PM to begin entering campus, students will be released at 3:15.
Any authorized parent/guardian/family member/family friend that arrives for dismissal, MUST HAVE the current year's dashboard placard AND DashPass downloaded and set-up with the child's link. If you are sending an adult that is on your emergency list, please have them download the app as well and SHARE your child's link with that person. If you need help with sharing your child's DashPass link, visit our website to find videos and reference guides. https://cc.franklin-academy.org/school-info
We will continue to monitor dismissal compliance. If the authorized driver doesn't have the placard and DashPass, they will be removed from carline, sent outside by the curb to either receive a temporary placard, after ID has been verified, and will receive support to download DashPass. After that, the vehicle will be redirected to enter carline at the archway to enter carline again.
