THIS WEEK - OASIS FAMILY FUN NIGHT! The HSA will be hosting an Oasis Family Fun Night on Wednesday, November 6th from 5:00-8:00pm!! Come out and play at the Oasis Family Fun Center (35 Lacrue Ave, Glen Mills) while helping to support Bethel Springs! The HSA will receive 50% of admission revenue as well as 10% of food sales. This is an optional drop off event, so if you want to leave your kids and go run some errands, simply come inside and sign them in!

There are two ticket options for the event:

• Option #1 - Combo Package ($12): Entrance to the soft playground and ballocity play area

• Option #2 - VIP Package ($25): Entrance to all play areas, laser tag, rock climbing, basketball as well as a $5 game card!

If you don’t want to get the all-inclusive VIP package but want to add on an attraction and/or game card not covered in the admission option you’ve selected, Oasis has add-on options for an additional charge(s). Ask when you arrive and pay for your child. *And don’t forget to wear socks!*

SAVE THE DATE - PARENTS’ NIGHT OUT AT BOARD & BRUSH: We had so much fun at last year’s inaugural Board & Brush fundraising event that we decided it was definitely a go for a second year! Join us on Tuesday, November 19th from 6:30-9:30pm at Board & Brush Creative Studios (331 Wilmington Pike Suite 4, Glen Mills) for a great time meeting new people or with friends while creating your own unique signs and enjoying BYO snacks, “etc.” The number of seats is limited, so book your spot soon! CLARIFICATION ABOUT AMERICAN EDUCATION WEEK/SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR: This year American Education Week falls during the week of November 18th-22nd, not November 11th-15th as was listed as part of some district information. **The Scholastic Book Fair at Bethel Springs will also occur during American Education Week, and you can find out all the info on the latest in Book Fair happenings in the special “Scholastic Book Fair Corner” of the eAlert below. The American Education parent visits are scheduled for Tuesday, November 19th and Wednesday, November 20th, which will also give you the opportunity to shop the Book Fair during your visit(s). #seewhatwedidthere

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR CORNER: As the Book Fair is quickly approaching, check out this special section of the HSA eAlert to stay up to date on all things Arctic Adventure!

The Scholastic Book Fair is COMING - “SNOW” many opportunities to SHOP!

• The Arctic Adventure Scholastic Book Fair will be here the week of November 18-22!

• Flyers regarding the fair are being sent home this week. Access Mr. Piasecki’s letter about our fair by clicking HERE.

• Students will have time to shop during their class’s assigned time slot during school on November 19-21, but parents and relatives will also get the chance to do some shopping on their own.

• Parents and relatives are invited to shop before and/or after their American Education Week visits, and during the Extended Book Fair Sale on Wednesday, November 20, from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM.

• Sip & Shop - Wednesday, November 20 from 7:00 AM - 9:00 AM: Parents and relatives are invited to enjoy complimentary coffee and breakfast fare on their way to work and/or after morning drop off to shop solo for holiday gifts. (Little ones in tow are welcomed to accompany you!)

Teacher Character Contest Incentive: Characters are Coming!

• Teachers will be voluntarily dressing up as their favorite book characters this Friday, November 8 in order not only to share their love of reading, but to win $200 in Scholastic Dollars to spend for their classroom libraries!

• All students will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite characters NEXT week when we kick off our All for Books collection.

• Details coming soon - in the meantime, start collecting that loose change to vote!

Dog Man: Fetch-22 Pre-Order Sale

• Dog Man: Fetch-22 will need to be pre-ordered as it goes on sale December 10.

• Pre-order forms are being sent home this week but can be accessed right HERE. (Books will be delivered to the school at no charge to you and then sent home with your child.)

• Send in your pre-order form with a check made out to BSES HSA and place it in an envelope labeled “Book Fair: Dog Man Pre-Order.”

• All pre-orders must be received by December 5.

The Helping Hands Club and the Bethel Springs Elementary School community collected more than 11 boxes of candy for the troops! Letters to our servicemen and women were included in the boxes. Mr. Andy Fernandez of Plank’d Fitness delivered our candy to Philadelphia Treats for Troops to be dispersed to soldiers at home and abroad. Thanks for your contributions!

It was an exciting week as students in Garnet Valley School District paired up with their nature trail buddies! Ms. Dougherty’s 1st grade class from Concord Elementary School invited Mr. Quindlen’s 4th grade class from Bethel Springs Elementary School to visit as their nature trail for a morning of learning and fun. Once the students paired up with their buddies, they ventured onto the nature trail to see what they could find!

Both classes studied and explored the habitats of the Concord Nature Trail! In these habitats, the students observed some very exciting wildlife such as Red-bellied Woodpecker, Black Vulture, Praying Mantis, and even a Common Garter Snake! Many of these species were photographed by the students for further study and to upload to iNaturalist, a citizen science app that identifies and catalogues wildlife in our area.

A fantastic time was had by all on the nature trail, and the buddies will be reunited this spring! Ms. Dougherty’s class will visit Bethel Springs Elementary School to visit Mr. Quindlen’s class to experience a different season together on the BSES Nature Trail!

During the week of November 18-22 public schools across the country will celebrate American Education Week, a time set aside for parents and visitors to find out more about all of the great learning that takes place in our schools. We invite parents to visit to according to the following schedule:

Parent/Teacher Conferences are a vital part of communication regarding your child's progress in school. At BSES we always have experienced excellent participation from parents at conference time, something that we greatly appreciate.

Fall conferences will be held on the following dates:

Monday, November 25th 8:00AM to 3:00 PM

Tuesday, November 26th 12:00PM to 8:00 PM

Wednesday, November 27th 8:00AM to 12:00 PM

Please note that progress reports will be issued on Friday, December 13th. Teachers will not have progress reports prepared for conferences, but will have good information and observations regarding your child's progress in school thus far.

Each year BSES engages in the school-wide study of a country to promote cultural awareness and a more global perspective among our students. Each student engages in an art project and a brief research project that culminates in the Art and Literature Fling Exhibit held at the end of May. Every student has his/her work displayed at the Art and Literature Fling. Throughout the year we integrate opportunities for learning about the given country in the homeroom, in others of our special area classes, and through school-wide announcements and activities.

This year we are trying something a little different. Each grade level was assigned an area of the world and teachers chose a country in that area to study. Students will engage in learning about the country chosen for their grade level and will share their learning with the rest of the school. In this way, students will learn about 5 different countries and cultures! Our 4th grade has chosen to focus on the United States with the thought that exploring your own country more deeply is, of course, very important and it gives a foundation for exploring and understanding other countries and cultures.

Below are the countries chosen by each grade level:

We have asked each grade level to research and communicate 20 facts about their chosen country. 5 Countries x 20 Facts =100 Facts. These will be shared in the form of brief video clips created by students.

Dear Parents,

The 4th and 5th grade students of Bethel Springs will have the opportunity to participate in the National Geographic Bee! This is how the Bee proceeds:

1. We have a preliminary competition involving all participants. This will take place at BSES on Wednesday, January 8th at 3:30 P.M. The field will be narrowed to 10 finalists.

2. The Final Competition will involve the 10 finalists and will take place at BSES during the school day on Friday, January 17th at 9:00 AM. One winner will be determined.

3. Our school level winner must take an online test that will be scored by National Geographic. This must be completed and sent by Friday, February 7th. Qualifiers for the State Bee will be notified by Monday, March 2nd. If the student achieves the necessary score on this test, he/she will go on to compete at the State Be in Harrisburg on Friday, March 27th. The state level winner will go on to the National Bee in Washington, D.C.

Students interested in participating can visit the following website to learn more: http://www.nationalgeographic.com/geobee/ On this website there are resources that students can purchase to prepare themselves for the Bee. They may also seek out their own geography study resources at the library or on the internet. Students must prepare and study on their own time. At school we will hold three practice sessions. These will take place in the BSES LGI on the following dates:

Monday, November 18th (4th grade 12:00-1:00; 5th grade 1:00-2:00)

Tuesday, December 17h (4th grade 12:00-1:00; 5th grade 1:00-2:00)

Monday, January 6th (4th grade 12:00-1:00; 5th grade 1:00-2:00)

Participants should pack lunches on dates of the practice sessions.
