COURTYARD READING GARDEN
Did you know that CAS has a courtyard? Unfortunately, during the COVID shutdown, our beautiful courtyard reading garden fell into disrepair. This year, the PTO will be working with the building to revitalize and rebuild this outdoor learning space for our children to enjoy. Be on the lookout for more information regarding paver sales and big fundraising efforts to make this happen!
Perspectives from Guidance: SEL - Social Emotional Learning
SEL is the process of developing the self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills that are vital for school, work, and life success. This week I’ll introduce 5 ways parents can help their children with SEL and build positive mental health habits at home:
1. Encourage your child to openly talk about their feelings and thoughts.- Do this through modeling. Teach your kids feeling words; it is never to early to start. Children need to learn a vocabulary of feeling words the same way they learn sight words.
- Validate your child’s feelings when shaping behavior: “It sounds like you’re upset about this, I totally understand. How can we make it better?” Combining validation with problem-solving helps your child feel better in addition to learning valuable solutions.
- Encourage your kids to look for connections with other children through common interests.
- Emphasize a balanced approach to eating, sleeping, and exercise instead of labeling habits and choices as ‘good’ or ‘bad.’
- Encourage children to stop, take a breath, and be in the moment. It can be easy to get stuck on something that just happened or is coming up. Show your child how to focus on the issue or task that is in front of them, and take one thing at a time.
Tomorrow is Bottle Hill Day in Madison!
Bottle Hill Day was created over forty years ago to promote the business district. The name originated from Madison’s original establishment in 1715 of the village called “Bottle Hill.” The event features four stages with live entertainment all day, over 200 vendor booths, amusement rides, great shopping and delicious food.
The Event is FREE and open to the public so bring the family and have some fun!
Visit the MEF booth at Bottle Hill Day this Saturday!
Learn about the MEF, enter our 50/50 raffle and see some of our grants in action. We’d love to talk to you about what we do and how you can help. We hope to see you there.
