AMHS Weekly Update
August 12-16,2024
THANK YOU FOR AN AMAZING 1st WEEK OF SCHOOL!!!!
We’re off to a great start! Our students are settling back into the school routine, and this week, we dedicated time to helping them get acclimated to the building, familiarizing themselves with classroom rituals and routines, and understanding our school-wide expectations.
Parents, please take a moment to review our school dress code and academic and discipline guidelines with your student to ensure a successful school year. Your support is key to helping us maintain a positive and productive learning environment.
Important School Information
Course Schedule Balancing This Week
This week, our counselors will be working to balance course schedules. Please remind your student to check their Infinite Campus account daily to ensure they are enrolled in the correct classes. This process is essential for maintaining balanced class sizes and optimal learning environments.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we complete this important task.
Disconnect to Reconnect: Embracing the District's New Cell Phone Initiative
This school year, we're excited to roll out the district's new "Disconnect to Reconnect" initiative, aimed at managing cell phone use to create a more focused and enriching learning environment.
The goal of this initiative is twofold: to enhance the quality of education by minimizing distractions and to reduce disruptive behaviors that can detract from the educational experience. To achieve this, students are expected to put away their cell phones during the instructional day.
We believe that by disconnecting from their devices, students can better engage with their teachers, peers, and the material they are learning. This initiative is a step toward fostering a more productive and connected school community.
To learn more about the "Disconnect to Reconnect" initiative and its benefits, please watch the video linked below.
Attendance Information
Maximizing Success at Arabia Mountain High School
Arabia Mountain High School follows a traditional 7-period schedule, with all classes—except for mathematics—taught at an accelerated level. To excel in this rigorous environment, students are expected to actively engage in their learning by previewing course materials, reviewing PowerPoint presentations, maintaining an organized notebook, choosing an effective note-taking method (e.g., Cornell Notes, outlining), reviewing feedback on graded assignments, and attending tutorials as needed.
Strong time management and study skills are essential for success. We recommend that students use an agenda, whether traditional or digital, to organize their day effectively. Regularly checking the Infinite Campus Portal and communicating with teachers about any questions or concerns are also crucial steps.
Additionally, students should commit to daily study beyond just completing homework to reinforce their understanding and avoid last-minute cramming for assessments.
By consistently dedicating time to these practices, students will be better prepared to succeed in their academic endeavors.

NWEA Fall MAP Assessment- August 12-23, 2024
Starting Monday, August 12th, our 9th and 10th grade students will begin taking the Fall MAP Assessment. The NWEA MAP Assessment is a district-wide universal screener, designed as a computer-adaptive test that measures student achievement and growth in math, reading, language usage, and science from K–12. This assessment adjusts to each student's ability, providing a personalized measure of their knowledge and tracking their growth over time.
The results of the MAP Assessment offer valuable insights for our teachers, helping them to tailor instruction based on each student's needs, strengths, and areas for improvement. The test is administered three times a year—Fall, Winter, and Spring—allowing us to monitor progress throughout the school year.
We encourage you to remind your student to do their very best on this assessment, as it plays a crucial role in guiding their educational journey.
