Amazing Raider Families,
"The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team." ~Phil Jackson~
This week, we celebrate our administrative professionals who support the work that we do in the classroom. Without them, our job of teaching and learning is inherently more challenging. Phil Jackson, Coach of the Lakers and Bulls, likened teamwork to the pack mentality of wolves; that as a pack, the wolves are single-minded in their pursuit but each wolf draws its strength from being a part of the pack. Click on this link to hear Coach Jackson talk about teamwork. So it is with our pursuit of educating the students in our community. The administrative professionals who support our work are integral members of our staff. They strengthen our resolve to accomplish our goals; in turn, they become stronger when they are a part of a team who supports what they do. I encourage you to take time to know our administrative staff and all that they do for the SOH Team! Take time on Wednesday to honor them and their contributions. Aileen, Angelica, Dennya, Eric, Enrique, Frances, Isabel, Janette, Julia, Maribel, Melissa, Talia and Vanessa, thank you for all you do for us! We love and appreciation you.

Students and Parents, we will be honoring our teachers during the first full week in May. One way that we will be honoring them is to provide a wellness spa day for them. We will be converting the Parent Center into a Day Spa. To that end, we will need to purchase items to make this a very safe space of rejuvenation. Click on this LINK to see our Amazon SOH Wellness Day Spa Wish List. If you are able to buy one item from this list, we would appreciate it. Additionally, we need some perishable food items (good for 100 people) to be purchased the day before:

An excerpt from National Geographic on the origin of Earth day:
Earth Day is an annual celebration that honors the achievements of the environmental movement and raises awareness of the need to protect Earths natural resources for future generations. Earth Day is celebrated on April 22 in the United States and on either April 22 or the day the spring equinox occurs throughout the rest of the world.
Environmental activism during the 1960s inspired Wisconsin Sen. Gaylord Nelson to create a national celebration uniting the environmental movement. With the help of Denis Hayes, a graduate student at Harvard University, Nelson organized the first Earth Day on April 22, 1970, educating participants in the importance of environmental conservation. Attended by 20 million people across the United States, the event strengthened support for legislation such as the Clean Air Act (updated in 1970) and the Endangered Species Act (1973).
In 1990, Hayes organized a global Earth Day, with more than 200 million participants in more than 140 countries. Earth Day now brings together citizens and activists from around the world to raise awareness and take action regarding such environmental concerns as global warming and renewable energy.
A Message from earthday.org
As a planet, we need an unwavering commitment to end plastics for the sake of human and planetary health, demanding a 60% reduction in the production of ALL plastics by 2040. Our theme, Planet vs. Plastics, calls to advocate for widespread awareness on the health risk of plastics, rapidly phase out all single use plastics, urgently push for a strong UN Treaty on Plastic Pollution, and demand an end to fast fashion. Join us as we build a plastic-free planet for generations to come!
