Parent D.E.N. 🐺
Check out this article on study tips for middle school students!
At our last Parents D.E.N. we discussed the importance of consistent attendance (did you know that starting in kindergarten, if your student misses two days a month, it adds up to almost 60 hours of reading and writing work a school year, and by the time they graduate, they will have missed an entire school year? Missed academic time adds up!), preparing for high school (healthy habits, understanding course requirements, options, etc.), and we talked about parental controls on cell phones! Did you know there are apps that can limit and monitor your students access? Remember, YOU are still in control of your students social media access and usage!
Join us for our next session THIS WEEK on March 19th!
Check in starts at 7:45, session begins at 8:00 AM!
After 7:30 AM Need to Be Signed in with A Parent/Guardian

🚀Give Teachers a BOOST!🚀
Education Thrives When You Keep It Under 5!
Fight the Spring Slump and make sure your student gets to school on time, every day!! Remember, school starts at 7:20 and ends at 2:20, so make sure to arrive ON TIME!
Help your teen stay engaged:
• Find out if your children feel engaged by their classes, and feel safe from bullies and other threats.
• Make sure your teens are not missing class because of challenges with behavioral issues or school discipline policies. If any of these are problems, contact the school and work with them to find a solution.
• Monitor you teen’s academic progress and seek help from teachers or tutors when necessary. Make sure teachers know how to contact you.
• Stay on top of your child’s social contacts. Peer pressure can lead to skipping school, while students without many friends can feel isolated.
• Encourage your child to join meaningful after-school activities, including sports and clubs.
• Support your students if you notice signs of anxiety, and if needed, seek advice from your school or health provider
If your student is too sick to attend school (fever over 101 degrees, repeated vomiting, etc. or excused for a medical appointment(, please make sure to send notes in to school. Notes can be dropped off in the front office, or emailed to Ms. Feldman (lynn_feldman@charleston.k12.sc.us). Any note emailed must contain a guardian signature.
Attendance is incredibly important to every students success. Each day a student misses academic instruction requires them to play "catch up" to meet their peers. Please try to have your student arrive on time, every day! If you are having challenges getting your student to school, please reach out to our School Social Worker, Ms. Steere-Williams (abigail_steerewilli@charleston.k12.sc.us) for support!
Please review the CEW South cell phone expectations with your child.
