Bluejay Bulletin
September/October 2024
Principal's Message:
Greetings Bluejay Families!
Welcome back to school! It has been wonderful to see all of the kids and staff over the past few weeks. We are looking forward to a school year filled with fun and impactful learning experiences.
With that being said, we started the year with an all-school assembly where we introduced new staff and welcomed back all staff and students. We took time to review general school expectations and reminded students of the Bluejay Way- Respectful-Responsible-Safe. These are the three top character traits that encompass our learning environment.
First and foremost, we want all kids to feel SAFE at school so that they can learn at optimal levels. Some ways to stay safe include the following actions: moving through the building safely, using only kind words, and offering to help when necessary. Next, we want them to be RESPECTFUL of themselves and others and of the school. We want them to treat others as they would like to be treated. Saying βpleaseβ and βthank youβ and asking for help when needed are all ways to show respect. Lasty, we want students to be RESPONSIBLE in all situations. Which means, taking responsibility for their actions and how they affect themselves and others. Being responsible also means coming to class with all necessary materials and having a positive attitude.
To foster this welcoming environment, staff took part in an all day training event around Conscious Discipline, where we learned about brain states and how we can recognize these in ourselves and our students, so that we can interact in ways that build trust and self-esteem.
Thanks to our AODA grant, we were able to further this concept of positivity by bringing in guest speaker, Terrence Talley to share an inspirational message with all of our staff and students. He reminded us that everyone has βsomethingβ that they may be going through or dealing with and that we can offer help when we see a need and tell others βIβve got your back!β
It is my sincere hope that WE continue this positive trend throughout the school year, through positive interactions, challenging and fun learning experiences and supportive relationships.
Letβs make this year our best one yet! Go Bluejays!
With gratitude,
Mrs. Gauerke-Peter

Counselor's Corner:
We are excited to welcome two new counselors to our school community this year! Mrs. Medford joins the Middle School, bringing with her a wealth of experience and a passion for supporting students during these important years. At the High School level, Mr. Baer will be offering his guidance and expertise to help students navigate their academic and personal challenges. Both Mrs. Medford and Mr. Baer are eager to meet and work with students, parents, and staff, and we are thrilled to have them as part of the Bluejay family!
