Vista Unified Community Update
Principal's Update
Happy Friday, Panther Families!
It’s been a beautiful last full week of school! I am so proud of our students and all they have accomplished this year.
We are looking forward to celebrating our Seniors on Wednesday, June 5th at Graduation! All students who participate in the graduation ceremony must have passed all of the required classes, and friends and family who have a ticket are welcome to attend. Tickets will be passed out at the graduation rehearsal, which is mandatory for all participating seniors, at 1:45 PM on Tuesday, June 4th.
Next week is Finals Week for grades 9-11. Study hard and prepare your best work, students! We are excited for you and want to send you home with a good report card that you can be proud of.
As always, thank you to all of teachers, staff, parents, and community for making this such a special year.
Go Panthers!

VHS Seniors Visit Bobier Elementary
Ms. Campbell's Senior English students created picture books to read to Bobier's students. They walked to Bobier Elementary School last Friday and their students put on an amazing parade to congratulate our soon-to-graduate seniors. Bobier's students were so excited to see our Panthers and even asked for their autographs at the end. Our seniors got a special VIP reception and Bobier's students got a special storytime hour as well as some sound advice from high schoolers.
National German Honor Society Students
Congrats to our National German Honor Society students (Delta Epsilon Phi) who are graduating with honors in German and received a special cord!
Matthieu Cloukey, Siena Heston, Gianna Hofer, Daniel Lopez, Jacqueline Ovalles, Bianca Quiroz, Arely Santiago, Ashley Torres, Elias Virula
Students Enrolled in Free Periods
Is your student signed up for a free period their Senior year?
Please be on the lookout for this parent consent form, which will be sent home with your student and needs to be signed before students leave for the summer. If we don't receive parent consent for a free period, your student will be assigned to a class as per California Education Code.
Thank you for your cooperation!

Black Out Challenge
Our school district has a dual obligation to the Vista Community - to keep students safe and to offer a high quality education. Unfortunately, there are times when social media trends can impact our students both on campus and at home.
A dangerous trend has resurfaced on social media called The Blackout Challenge. This challenge is an internet challenge based around the choking game, which deprives the brain of oxygen. This can be done by holding one's breath or by restricting the passageway of another person.
Parents are encouraged to watch out for signs that their child may be engaging in the choking game and these include:
Discussion of the game - including other terms used for it, such as "pass-out game" or "space monkey"
Bloodshot eyes
Marks on the neck
Severe headaches
Unexplained presence of things like leashes, choke collars and bungee cords
We need to work as a community to guard against the dangers social media trends can present to our students.

From the Librarian
The last day the library is open for students is Thursday, May 23. The library will be locked and we will be in the Annex for staff and students needs. No more student printing, or book checkouts.
SENIORS: All seniors who are graduating must have everything returned, and paid for, before Monday, June 3, or they will not be receiving their diploma. They may walk, but diplomas will be held. After Monday, seniors will have to wait until after graduation to clear. We are too busy with underclassmen to accommodate individual seniors.
UNDERCLASSMEN: 9-11th graders can keep their Chromebook, charger, and hot spot until they leave VHS. All calculators and books must be returned by Friday, June 7 or August registration will be icky for them.
