LMS Daily Schedule
Daily School Arrival/Dismissal Information
- Students who arrive prior to 7:50 am, must use W12 and report to the cafeteria. At 7:50 am, all students will be able to access the building through doors: E7 and S8 until 8:05 am. All students who arrive after 8:05 am will be directed to enter through S8 (the main office doors) to check in.
- For safety reasons, there is to be no loitering (to linger idly or aimlessly) of students in the school building or on school grounds after their daily programs are finished. Students must leave the school grounds no later than 3:50p.m. (2:50 on Early Release Wednesdays) unless they are attending a school-sponsored, supervised activity, or they have a scheduled appointment with a teacher.
Additional Resources
- To start the 24-25 school year, we developed a Longfellow Information Guide to help our students and families easily access enrollment, procedures, academic information, etc.
- Please see here for our "Who's Who?" at LMS. This guide provides a list of staff who can assist you with various information here at Longfellow.
School Expectations
Backpacks
- In order to maintain student and staff safety, we will require students to store their backpack in their school issued locker. “Students are prohibited from leaving backpacks in the hallways, bathrooms, office, and other common spaces. Students are responsible for backpacks and other personal items that are not stored in a locked school issued locker.” Students who fail to adhere to this expectation will receive a school issued consequence. However, if your student has a documented specialized plan and it is best for him/her to carry a backpack they will be allowed to carry it.
- Please review this copy of the LMS Student & Family Handbook for school expectations and policies.
Technology
- This document includes reminders and updates for technology for students and staff this school year!
- Please review our district's Technology usage policy and Student acceptable use guidelines for the use of electronic devices. All students who returned their Chromebook and Chromebook charger will receive one at the start of the year. If the charger was misplaced during the 23-24 school year, your child will be responsible for bringing a charger by Wednesday, September 4, 2024.
ACAL
Activities Center at Longfellow (ACAL) is a great place for middle school students to gather and enjoy a variety of social and sport activities. There is a nominal fee. The fee is paid directly to the Wauwatosa Recreation Department through the Infinite Campus parent portal. Instructions and a designated link will be provided prior to the start of the school year. ACAL is scheduled to select Friday nights during the school year: one Friday for sixth grade students and one Friday for seventh/eighth grade students. Students are required to present their student I.D. card in order to be admitted. Replacement I.D. cards may be purchased in the office for $5.00 during lunch or after school.
Student Services
Schedules
Course selections will be considered closed and not subject to student change as of Friday September 13th, 2024.
Schedule changes will be considered for the following reasons only:
1. If a student is academically misplaced (for example, math level should be adjusted higher or lower to meet the student’s needs)
2. If a course has been eliminated due to low enrollment.
3. A conflict exists in the student schedule that prevents them from taking one or more of the classes they selected during the registration process.
4. A student was mistakenly scheduled into an incorrect class.
5. The Student Services Team Member or Administrator deems that a schedule change is in the best interest of the student.
6. A student was placed on a waitlist for a closed class and a seat became available.
7. Other requests to add/drop will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Below are examples of why a request may not be honored:
The student would like to change teachers.
The student would like to be in classes with friends.
*This list is not exclusive - in general, student generated course changes will not be honored.
SEL Corner
In advisory, which takes place one time per week on Wednesday mornings, we will be working through the Character Strong SEL program. The purpose of Advisory is to increase a sense of belonging for all students, improve skills that support student well-being, and deepen student engagement in their academics, in their school, and in their community. The structure of Advisory helps to build a sense of community at Longfellow for students and staff. This year, the Wauwatosa School District has partnered with Character Strong to provide a curriculum to our middle school students.
Feel free to reach out to Student Services if you are seeking resources or have questions about supporting the mental health or well being of your child.
