Happy Sunday! Be sure that you are reading this newsletter as we've added lots of important save the date info for Pre-K, K, and 5th grade. We've also set the date for the 2nd grade Parent Picnic. This newsletter is a helpful reference during the week to know what's happening at school. Interims will be sent home Tuesday. This means we are half way through the 3rd 9 weeks grading period. Please be sure that you ask your child for their interim report (K-5) and that you are seeing their grades and attendance. You can see more details on PowerSchool and check the attendance to see how many days are excused and unexcused. We will send out possible retention notices with the 3rd 9 weeks report cards. This week we are continuing our Kids Heart Challenge. You can participate by registering your child online, helping us raise donations and participating in the fundraiser dress day this week. We thank you for your support in helping us promote healthy hearts through the Kids Heart Challenge. The spring fundraiser continues this week. All order forms and payment are due on Feb 24th. To be a top seller, orders and payment must be turned in on time. Attendance letters have gone out again. Please be sure that you are turning in doctor's notes when your child is out. If you don't have a doctor's note, you need to be watching their attendance to be sure it's not over the limit to pass on to the next grade. Students will learn heart-healthy messages and positive character traits while as a family you will learn Hands-Only CPR and the warning signs of a stroke when you complete Finn’s Mission.

Join us in learning about heart health and raising funds to protect all hearts – especially other kids! Through fun activities we’ll discover ways to take care of our hearts and brains while practicing kindness, gratitude and learning ways to de-stress. Plus, we have the chance to earn PE equipment for our school!

Parents, we will be shifting car pool loading and unloading area soon due to construction. This will be even more important for you to not arrive early. We will post information and directions of when this shift will begin. If you would like to move your child to the bus to avoid the car line, please call the office and we can help. We appreciate your patience with the construction and our car line.

We really need your help parents! We have so many parents in car line that it's causing issues. If you get here BEFORE we start unloading, the line is backing up to the road and that's not safe. If you get here and the line is already to the turn, PLEASE pull up and don't leave any gaps. If you see a bus needing to get out, please yield to the bus so they can get out otherwise you can pull up and you DO NOT have to keep those gaps open. Please, please don't get here before 7:00. You need to arrive between 7 and be here before 8:00. If you arrive right at the bell, the duty teachers have to get to their classes. They can't stay there because the line just gets bigger and bigger after the bell. We know this can be frustrating but need you to understand that there has to be an end or they'd never get to their class. If you want to start your child on the bus, call and we can help get that started. THANK YOU for your cooperation and assistance.

This month we are focusing on Kindness. Read below for how you can help by having conversations with your child about this month's connection both at school and at home.

Parents, talk with your child about ways to show kindness. Kindness is shown in many ways both at home and school. Taking turns, helping others and using kind words when talking are just some of the ways that we use kindness each day. Have your child draw a picture of them showing kindness and write an explanation of how they are showing kindess in the picture. Students can turn them into their teachers to share during morning time.

We will be teaming up with the American Heart Association to help promote heart health. We will be helping by getting families to sign up to help during the Kids Heart Challenge and by promoting hands only CPR. We will also have 2 fundraisers to help raise money for the Kids Heart Challenge. We have been in the top 3 for Livingston Parish Public Schools for the last 5 years and want to keep that support going. South Fork Elementary School: The top homerooms with the most students registered will get a dress down day! Students who raise $75 or more will get entered into a drawing for a sloth plush. All students registered will receive a dress down day on Feb. 21st. Students who earn a cape and complete Finn's Mission will get to be part of a special superhero day on Feb. 21st.

Thank you for participating in the Kids Heart Challenge (KHC) and supporting the American Heart Association! An important part of KHC is Finn’s Mission which teaches our students and families how to recognize the signs of a stroke and the critical lifesaving skill of Hands-Only CPR.

Hands-Only CPR requires no mouth-to-mouth breathing. It’s easy to learn and could save the life of someone you love.

Students can log into Clever at home. They can do Reflex Math to work on addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts. This is something that is quick and easy to do and helps students with fact fluency. This is for 1st-5th grades.

You have access to them at home——> Log into Clever, go to Amplify, and then click on the units. The “library” of books for each unit is in the boxes on the bottom on the page.

We no longer have a Cowboy driver. Cowboy will continue to ride on Tumbleweed the rest of the year. Tumbleweed will be split between Coyote and Tumbleweed like we've been doing until the end of the year.

Parents, we are seeing students lose their cafeteria money and this causes problems. PLEASE use the online payment to put money in your child's account. This is much easier!

All LPPS students receive free breakfast and lunch. For students eating lunch in the cafeteria, there are extra items for purchase. Ice cream is sold on Fridays. (Not Pre-K) Parents are encouraged to add money to your child's account for these extra items. If your child uses cash, please know that change is not given and the money goes into their account. However, online is preferred for elementary students as they often lose cash. Click the link below to set up your student's account and add money to it. Cash can ONLY be used for extra cafeteria sales but online is highly preferred.

Parents, please be aware that this is in place if conditions warrant a late start.

LPPS Schools Emergency Winter Weather Late Arrival Plan

In the event that the area is experiencing wintery weather and driving early in the morning on such days would present a safety hazard, LPPS Schools created the following plan for starting school later in the day. Depending on the severity of the weather, schools could be delayed 2 or 3 hours. Please see below to know what that would look like for your child.

Two Hour Late Arrival Plan
1. All student start times will be moved (2) two hours later.
2. All bus pickup and carpool start times will be moved (2) two hours later.
3. (Example; 6:30 moves to 8:30)
4. All employee work arrival times will be moved (2) two hours later.
5. Breakfast will not be served.
6. Lunch schedule will remain the same.
7. Dismissal schedule will remain the same.

Three Hour Late Arrival Plan
