Welcome to the 2024-25 School Year
We are so excited to have our Abernethy Community back!
Welcome to our first Newsletter of the 2024-25 school year!
I hope you all had an amazing summer break! The staff and I are absolutely looking forward to welcoming everyone back from the summer break as well as giving a big WELCOME to our new students and kindergarten families!
This school year is going to be an amazing year! We are going to call it "The School Year of Nothing"! I feel that we have checked enough boxes over the past 4 years:

First Day Of School!
Our first day of school is quickly approaching! Here are some helpful reminders and some new information!
- The first day of school for 1st through 5th grade students is on Tuesday, August 27th.
- Kindergarten Ramp Up week will be August 27th - 30th.
- The first full day for Kindergarten will be September 3rd.
- Our school start and end times have changed this year!
- Our first bell will ring at 7:52am.
- Our late bell will ring at 8:00am.
- Yes, school starts this year at 8:00am! Dismissal will be at 2:30pm.
- All morning drop off and afternoon pick up will be done in the back of the school, on Eliott Ave. Please DO NOT drop your student off in front of the school, on Orange Ave, before 8:05am. Or pick up your student on Orange Ave. between 2:20 and 2:40.
- We have had a number of close calls with students and cars during these times on Orange Ave. Students who walk to school will cross this street and as it is a very narrow street, the more cars on it, the more dangerious it becomes for our students. We would like to keep our students safe!
2024-25 Teacher Assignments
The wait is finally over!
You can now log onto ParentVue and see your student's teacher assignment!
Here are some important reminders regarding your student's teacher assignment.
At the end of last school year, the teachers put a LOT of time and very careful thought into building the absolute best learning environment for your students. They thought about positive friendships between students as well as students who might not be successful together. They took parent feedback about learning styles and added it to what they saw in the classroom. They even talked with other teachers in their grade level as well as other staff members around the building to ensure that they were not missing anything. This whole process took well over a month! My point being, teachers were very intentional in every step of this process.
Our reason for waiting over the summer before releasing teacher assignments is to ensure that any movement over the summer can be balanced out. New students moving into Abernethy can be added to classes and students who have had a change of plans over the summer and are leaving can be taken out. All this is done while still focusing on keeping a strong balance within each classroom and ensuring that the learning environment stays positive for all students. Once all students are grouped, I assign the teachers, double checking all parent feedback that we collected at the end of last year.
If you remember, communication around parent feedback was to share information that would help in building the best learning environment for your student, NOT to tell us what specific teacher you would like. Please know that when I share parent feedback information with the staff and when I review the feedback before finalizing class lists, I do not look at specific teacher requests.
Due to the amount of time and intentional thought that has gone into this process, we will NOT be making class placement changes.
Please also note that if you see Ms. Arthurs as your assigned 3rd grade teacher, She now goes by Ms. Shah.
If you do not have ParentVUE set up, here are steps that you can take now so that when the announcement is made, the process should be simple.
If you have an account set up, and like me, always forget your password, here are steps that you can follow:
Parents:
- Go to the ParentVUE login page
- Select I am a parent
- Select More Options
- Select Forgot Password
- Enter the email address that was used when the account was activated
- Select Send Email
- You will receive an email which contains a one-time use reset link
As always, if you have any trouble with resetting your password, please call Christine in the school office. She will be happy to help with any troubleshooting.
School Supplies
Here are the supply lists for each grade level.
If you are in need of assistance for any or all school supplies, here is a google form that will connect you to our school counselor, Jenny Morgan, and she will happily ensure that your student has all their supplies on the first day of school.
