Dear SVDP Community,

We had 111 parent responses to our educational program survey. We appreciate your time and input, and we wanted to share the results.

CO-CURRICULAR PROGRAMS

As a reminder, our co-curricular programs include Spanish, PE, music, art, technology, library, and drama. It can be challenging to rank our co-curriculars since we all believe that to teach the whole child, curriculum must be all encompassing and diverse to meet our students’ needs. That being said, technology out ranked all of the other co-curriculars with 43% of the vote and Spanish, music and art tied for second with each garnering 21% of the vote when parents were asked to rank them in order of importance.

When asked to rank the proposed educational programs in order of importance the STEM-STEAM program (Science, Technology, Engineering, ART, Math) was ranked the highest by far with 61% of the respondents voting it number one.

Your student's Renaissance STAR results for May 2019 will be going home this week. Be on the look out for them!

The Renaissance STAR assessments are administered four times a year and are utilized by teachers as benchmarks. Benchmark testing permits the school to get a snapshot of data on each student multiple times a year. The school faculty and staff then analyzes the data and adjusts instruction accordingly.

The graphs below compare our school-wide Percentile Rank (PR) scores from September 2018 and May 2019. They show the percentage of SVDP students who landed in each quartile. Grades 2-8 are represented.

In reading, our students experienced as a group a 11.76% increase in the top quartile, while in math, the group experienced a 10.93% increase in the top quartile. Fantastic growth overall!

Student academic growth over the school year is measured by the Student Growth Percentile (SGP). On average a student landing in the 35% - 65% range is considered to have grown a year's worth of academic growth in a specific subject area.

Our school average SGP this year in reading is 60.84% and in math it is 58%.
