Jarrell ISD Monday Memo
March 24, 2025
Cougars,
School safety and security require a lot of thought and dialogue. There isn't a one size fits all approach. Location, time, and type of incident are all critical components of a safety plan, which is why it takes a team of people to evaluate safety and security protocols. To ensure we have the most well-thought-out plan, Jarrell ISD district and campus administrators met with Austin ISD Assistant Chief Travis Pickford and members of Williamson County EMS, Firefighters, and the Office of Emergency Management. It was a fantastic collaboration focused on the safest, most efficient ways to operate during an emergency. While the district already has security protocols and procedures, it's important we revisit and discuss them. Schools create a positive and secure learning environment where students can thrive by keeping safety a priority.
School safety reminders are important because they help ensure a secure and supportive environment for students, staff, and families. Here's why they matter:
Preparedness for Emergencies – Students and staff are better equipped to respond to situations like fire drills, lockdowns, or severe weather when they are familiar with safety protocols.
Parental Awareness & Involvement – Families are crucial in reinforcing safety measures, ensuring smooth drop-off/pick-up, monitoring online safety, and reporting concerns.
Building a Culture of Safety – Frequent communication fosters a sense of responsibility, encouraging students to look out for themselves and others.
Reducing Anxiety & Enhancing Confidence – When students and parents know clear safety measures are in place, it creates a sense of security and trust in the school environment.
At Jarrell ISD, we utilize the Standard Response Protocol (SRP). The documents are attached below in both English and Spanish. SRP focuses on:
Hold
Secure
Lockdown
Evacuate
Shelter

In the event of an emergency, it's critical we have your up-to-date contact information. Later this week, the district will test its emergency communication devices. That includes phone calls, emails, and text messages.
Security is crucial to families and communities because it provides a safe and stable environment where individuals can thrive without fear. Parents feel more at ease knowing their children are safe at school. It also allows families to focus on daily life, work, and education without constant worry about their well-being.
