Dear Lincoln Families!
Welcome Back to a new school year! We hope you had a restful and enjoyable summer break. As we embark on this exciting journey together, we are committed to providing your children with a safe, supportive, and enriching environment where they can strive. Our team of educators is eager to work with you for a successful and fulfilling school year for all of our students. Let’s make this school year a memorable one filled with learning, growth, and new opportunities! Please review the following important updates.
New Building Administration
Mrs. LaTanya Donald (Principal) and Mrs. Sharon Turner Wingba (Assistant Principal) are new to the Administration team. We will bring a wealth of experience, passion for education, and a strong commitment to our students’ success. Please look for our monthly newsletter via email in the upcoming weeks.
Construction & Parking
Due to road closures and construction on 157th Street, families can access the school building using 156th Place only. Please note that on regular school days, 156th Place will be accessible only for 10-12 school buses and private transportation companies from 7:45 am to 8:15 am. We strongly advise allowing additional time for travel and expect traffic delays. We also strongly advise families and students to walk to school instead of driving, if possible. Additional parking is available at St. Andrews Church on 768 Freeland Ave. Do not walk or drive across 157th Street for safety reasons. The construction is anticipated to continue until the end of October. Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation.
Please note, at dismissal time, 156th Place will be accessible only to school buses and private transportation companies from 2:15 pm to 2:30 pm. We strongly advise using St. Andrews parking or walking.
Open House (Friday, Aug. 16, 2024, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm)
Our school building will be open for families to meet teachers on Friday, August. 16, 2024, from 6-8 pm. Families may bring in school supplies during this time to make for a smooth entrance on Monday, August, 19, 2024. Get information from the teacher to connect to their Class Tag so you will receive class and school communication. Please note, the construction and parking details mentioned above, apply during Open House as well.
Back to School Bash (Sat. Aug. 17, 2024, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm)
Please join us on Saturday, August 17, 2024, for the Back to School bash. There will be school supplies giveaways, community resources, pony rides, tumblers, hair braiding, and barbering services (first come, first serve). You can also purchase gym uniforms at this time. We look forward to celebrating the start of a new school year with our students. Please note, the construction and parking details mentioned above, apply during the Back to School Bash as well.
First Day of School (Monday, August 19, 2024)
The first day for students is Monday, Augus. 19, 2024. It is a full day of attendance. Please check the parent portal of PowerSchool on Sunday, August, 18, 2024, to confirm your student’s homeroom teacher and room assignment. All students will use 156th Place to access the west playground lot near the staff parking lot. Students will line up with their class, enter the building using Door 1, and exit the building on 156th Place. Please allow additional time for travel, and expect traffic delays. Parents will not be allowed in the building during arrival on the first day of school.
We will issue wristbands to all students registered during Open House on Friday, August 16, 2024, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. See attached flyer. If your student is registered, you can pick up their wristband at Open House or the Back to School Bash on Saturday, August 17, 2024, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. If you are unable to attend either event and you have confirmation of registration, there will be tables on the East Playground located at 156th Pl. and Freeland Ave to pick up your child’s band.
If your student is not registered, there will be a Registration Informational table during Open House, the Back to School Bash, and on the 1st day of school at which time you can schedule an appointment for late registration.
Do not drop your child off on the first day of school unless you have confirmed that they are registered.

Monday, August 26: Parent/Child Visiting Day (9:00-10:00)
Tuesday, August 27: First Full day
Student Invention Recognitions for Patent
FY 2023-2024 is the second year Lincoln School has competed in the Chicago School Invention Contest in Chicago. Last year we had one student project selected to represent the Chicago region at the US National Invention Convention. This year we had five projects chosen. Having five projects selected is an impressive achievement and getting a project noticed by Patent sponsor lawyers of Vedder Price at the Illinois Student Invention Convention at the South Side YMCA in May is a significant milestone. Not only did the project garner the attention of the Patent sponsor, but the students were also awarded an opportunity to patent their invention. It’s great to see such innovation and talent being recognized
Congratulations to our 8th-grade students, Angel Acosta, Junior Alonso, and Daniel Lopez, for their hard work and dedication in achieving this exciting milestone. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for these talented young inventors. Special thanks to our very own Mrs. Alkhatib for leading the charge!
