FROM OUR ADMINISTRATOR
Dear Harbor Light Christian School Family,
As we bring another school year to a close, it’s natural to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve all shared, marked by soaring highs and challenging lows. This month, in thinking about the end of the school year, instead of focusing on the busyness of all the events, I have been trying to focus on savoring. I hold dear every precious moment we have shared together, and want to celebrate and savor the remaining days and events. From the first day of school to these final weeks, it’s been a remarkable year!
One of the most significant aspects of this month is savoring our last weeks with an extraordinary senior class. Their presence has been a beacon of leadership and inspiration, not just this year, but throughout their high school careers. I will miss their energy, wisdom, love for the Lord and their shenanigans too. I have been blessed to watch the countless ways they’ve poured into the lives of younger students, leaving a legacy of service and hard work. As they prepare to embark on new adventures, I speak on behalf of the staff as we extend heartfelt gratitude for their contributions and wish them all the best in the next steps in their journey.
The end of the school year is also a time when the school is buzzing with excitement and activity. We savor the craziness of the busy days, filled with sunshine and joy. Field trips and sporting events, like baseball, softball, and track meets, have kept our students active and engaged. Special occasions such as the Swordsmen Olympics, the Drama department’s production: Scripture Shakespeare and Sweets events, and Preschool Family Night have added to the vibrancy of our school life. These moments of fun, connection, and learning have brought us closer together and helped create lasting memories.
As we look forward to the summer break, let’s savor the promise of sunny days and a well-deserved rest. It’s a time to recharge, enjoy the company of family and friends, and reflect on all the Lord has done and taught us this year. I hope you all find time to relax and savor time with our Father in heaven while you enjoy the beauty of the season. Thank you for being a part of the Harbor Light Christian School family. Here’s to a summer filled with joy and savoring sweet memories from the school year past and look forward, with anticipation for the exciting new school year ahead!
In His Service,
Kelly Dutcher, Administrator, Harbor Light Christian School

May is Volunteer Appreciation Month!
As we celebrate volunteer appreciation month, we wanted to take a moment to thank all of our amazing volunteers who help serve HLCS throughout the year. Below are just a few of our dedicated volunteers sharing how they feel about serving at HLCS.

Why do you come back day after day?
I love the Christ loving community both with the adults and the kids. It's easy to come back amidst the love and learning. There is joy here. And I get to see my daughter loving school and with her friends.
What is the community like here as a volunteer?
I have this vision of a huge boat and all of the staff are rowing that boat in the same direction. Each day that I have the opportunity to volunteer, I pick up an oar, get in the boat and help HLCS row for a little while. It is such a privilege.

Why do you come back week after week?
I feel welcome and loved here. There are many faces I see out in the community, church, grocery store etc. and everyone is kind. I am relatively new to the area and any time I have a question about where to go for this, or who can I have do that, Lisa helps me out!

Why do you come back week after week?
I like getting to know the kids and staff, and being a part of my kids' school. Community - I can be a part of the community and mentor others at this point. I always felt accepted in the school community as my kids were growing up. HLCS is very open, welcoming, and encouraging.

Missions Recap
A Message from Mrs. Standish:
Dear HLCS family,
Mission Days are always a time of blessing for me. I find reward in being able to help ease someone's burden or brighten their day. How blessed are our students, chaperones and parents that together we get to help others? Take a moment and think about what an impact your child, their school, and God are having in others' lives. Wow! God has provided us with the ability to reach so many.
Here is a rundown of our most recent Mission Days:
We had 36 adult chaperones, 87 students & worked over 1000 hours in the community.
We visited cities in 4 counties, including Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Charlevoix, Rose City, Cheboygan, Pellston, Levering, Boyne City & Alanson.
Students and chaperones raked, hauled furniture, picked up brush, garbage, rocks & branches, weeded, mulched, filled holes in yards, cleared gutters, fixed & power washed a deck, cleaned homes, washed windows, organized, decluttered, hauled & stacked wood, and spent time with the elderly.
We went to churches, homes, resale shops, food pantries, nursing homes, and schools. A few of the churches we helped either directly or through their congregation are Harbor Light Community Chapel, Church of Christ, Stutsmanville, Alanson Nazarene, Charlevoix Nazarene, Walloon Lake Community Church, Indian River Baptist, Emmanuel Evangelical Church, and Genesis Church.
We helped widowed, sick, overwhelmed, hungry, amputees, veterans, disabled, homeless, recovering, elderly, farmers, and equestrians.
I am so grateful for all the prayers, support & time that you have given through our Spring Mission Days.
Thankfully,
Heather Standish

Sister School Update
Last month we provided you with an update about the school in Kenya that our students have been supporting financially with their own donations, collected on the first chapel of each month. This past month, the HLCS students raised nearly $2000 for the kids at Chosen Vessels.
Recently, the village and surrounding areas were hit with intense floods, wiping out homes, the school, and carrying some people away. If you would like to give to directly support the school, please use Sendwave (see image at right) to get your donations directly to the headmaster.
Thank you for considering reaching out with an extra measure to help our friends in need. They now no longer have Bibles, or any of the school supplies that they had treasured.
Prayer Requests
Here are a few suggestions for how you can support our school in prayer:
HLCS Seniors as they transition out of HLCS; for their future paths and that they honor God and their families in their choices and lives
Staffing needs for the 2024-2025 school year
Safety in summer for students, family, and staff as they enjoy time away from school and travel to see family and friends.
DO YOU HAVE A TESTIMONY?
Has HLCS had a positive or life-changing impact on your life or that of someone you love? Please share these stories with us so we can keep letting others know what a wonderful difference we can make! Send your experience to jcope@harborlight.org.
