RRSD #35 Community Update
November 18, 2022
District Happenings:
Celebrating our own!
Our district is trying to be more intentional about celebrating our amazing community, students, and alumni. Starting soon, we will be highlighting graduates of the Rogue River School System. We have so many amazing alumni who have started businesses, gone into health or service careers, become educators, or who are making a difference in their communities. Help us celebrate our community by looking for our highlighted alumni on our District Website and Facebook page.
Bugs, Viruses, and other Ickies!
RSV, COVID-19, colds, and flus are all going around in our region. We have seen an uptick in absences due to illness in the past few weeks. The holiday season is prime time for illnesses to spread. Please remember to check your child daily for signs of illness. If they appear to be ill, please keep them at home. Illness is one thing we don't want to share this holiday season!
School Bond:
On November 8, 2022, the voters of the RRSD voted to reject a $4 million dollar bond request to improve RRSD facilities that would have been matched by an extra $4 million from the state of Oregon.
School board members are now considering whether or not to try again. If the school board decides to try again, they will need to figure out when to run the bond, for what amount, and for what projects.
The school board would love to hear from its community to find out what they should change to help pass the bond and address facility needs in the district. If you are willing to share thoughts, ideas, or input regarding a bond project, please do so by emailing to: board@rogueriver.k12.or.us

Kudos:
Ashtyn James: Ashtyn is the new vice principal at the elementary school. Principal Olmstead recently had a family medical issue that forced him to miss over a week of work. During that time, Ashtyn and the elementary staff did an amazing job of stepping up and keeping things running well. Ashtyn's leadership and poise are appreciated, and we know she and the rest of the elementary staff are all very happy to have Casey back at work.
Nicole Radant: This SVA employee is being given a kudo for her hard work, especially while SVA was down an employee. She has been especially helpful with food service at SVA.
Marla Smith, Emme Schloegl, and Rebecca Kinsey: These three employees have created an amazing after school tutoring program for students. Their creativity and dedication are making a difference for our students.
Quay Goff: Quay has built an amazing support program for our community through her Rogue River Emporium/Operation Backpack program. These programs provide food, clothing, and other basic necessities to our families in need.
