REMINDER: Student Device Fee Due Oct. 1
All secondary students should have received their laptops, and the device protection fee is due by October 1. The Bastrop Protection Plan is an affordable way to ensure that families are protected in the event of accident, damage, theft, or loss of the laptop. The fee is only $25 for the first child in the household and a discounted $15 for each child after that. A student with no claims in 23-24 can carry over their fee for the 24-25 school year.
We have provided a convenient way to pay the protection plan fee using Revtrak. Use this Enrollment Guide for step-by-step instructions (Spanish Version). If you need to make a payment plan, please contact your child's school.
Need a Hotspot?
The BootUp Hotspot program provides a hotspot to Bastrop ISD students who do not have access to the Internet at home. Students will be able to access high-quality instructional materials in addition to district-adopted tools and platforms. Only Bastrop ISD-issued Chromebooks will be able to connect to the Hotspot. The district is using a built-in content filtering system to support safe browsing at school, home, or other locations.
Parents may request a hotspot for their child by visiting https://bastrop.revtrak.net/technology/. There is no charge to request a hotspot, but the Device Protection Plan fee of $25 must be paid prior to receiving a hotspot.

Social Emotional Learning in BISD
What are the students learning?
In recognition of October as Bullying Prevention Month, students in grades K-8 will begin SEL lessons that empower students to Recognize, Report, and Refuse bullying. Families looking to engage their students around these topics can ask questions such as:
- What are you learning during SEL time this week?
- What are some ways you can recognize bullying?
- What are some things that support mental health?
Safe Storage of Firearms
Texas law now requires school districts to distribute information to parents and guardians about the safe storage of firearms. The attached information will help you learn about options for, as well as how to talk to your child and others about, the safe storage of firearms.
In 2021, 4,613 Texans experienced gun-related deaths. The Texas Department of State Health Services (SHS) reports that 55% of Texas firearms deaths in 2020 were suicides and that 59% of all suicides in Texas were by firearms. Suicide attempts involving firearms have a 90% fatality rate. Restricting access to guns is critical in reducing acts of violence, whether as self-harm or towards others. Acts of mass violence and interpersonal violence often end in suicide.
It is unlawful to store, transport, or abandon an unsecured firearm in a place where children are likely to be and can obtain access to the firearm. Under Texas Penal Code 46.13, a person commits the offense of making a firearm accessible to a child if the child gains access to a readily dischargeable firearm, and the person with criminal negligence:
- Failed to secure the firearm; or
- Left the firearm in a place to which the person knew or should have known the child would gain access
The penalty for allowing a child access to a firearm can range from a Class C misdemeanor (punishable by a $500 fine) to a Class A misdemeanor (punishable by a $4000 fine, a year in jail, or a combination of the two).
Remember, a gun should be stored unloaded in a safe or locked container, with ammunition stored elsewhere. You can learn more and find additional resources from the Texas Department of Public Safety at https://safegunstoragetexas.com. Texas exempts the purchase of firearm safety equipment from Texas Sales and Use Tax.

What Type of Storage Works Best for You?
Protecting all Texans means knowing how to stop weapons from reaching the wrong hands. No matter where you keep your gun, it needs to be stored safely when you’re finished using it. There are many choices when it comes to safe gun storage. It all depends on the type of firearm, your living situation, and cost.
Talking to Others About Gun Safety
About one-third of homes with children have at least one firearm — and many of those guns are both unlocked and loaded. It is important to keep your child away from firearms. But parents are often uncomfortable having a conversation about gun safety with others. Remember, you’re just trying to keep your child safe.
