Congrats! Argyle's National Merit Semifinalist
Argyle High School's Drew Mackereth has been named a NATIONAL MERIT SEMIFINALIST!
Drew is among the fewer than 1% of high school seniors in the nation to earn this prestigious honor!
He is also the second Mackereth to receive the honor in the past three years at Argyle High School! Drew’s older brother Ryan, now attending Texas A&M, was a National Merit Semifinalist & Finalist in 2022.
“We are so proud of Drew,” Argyle High School Principal Shannon Knowles said. “Being named a National Merit Semifinalist is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and brilliance. He has achieved something truly remarkable, and we are incredibly proud of him.”
National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC®) announced the names of more than 16,000 Semifinalists in the 70th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 6,870 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $26 million that will be offered next spring.
To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
Over 1.3 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools entered the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. The number of Semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state's percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.
Watch this video as Mrs. Knowles surprises Drew with the big news. He also makes a special call to his brother!

Now Is The Time: Take Action Argyle ISD!
We need action and we need it now! Please join us in asking our legislators to prioritize public education funding!
Presently,
- Argyle ISD is one of few districts in the state that has received the Formula Transition Grant since 2019 and faces a significant funding cliff beginning with the 2024-2025 fiscal year when FTG expires,
- Argyle ISD is subject to losing approximately $250,000 via the Robin Hood formula of “recapture,”
- There has been NO CHANGE to the basic allotment despite 40-year record inflation.
- Argyle ISD, like most school districts in Texas, is struggling to provide meaningful raises to our teachers.
