April 14, 2025
We have hit the ground running coming back from Spring break and starting our fourth quarter of school. This week, we have lots of school happenings. Several of our grade levels and programs have field trips including Third Grade going to Triple C Camp, Fifth Graders visiting Middle Schools, and some of our Special Education students participating in the Little Feet Meet. On Wednesday evening, we have a special Earth Day community event from 6-7:30pm and it's class pictures on Thursday.
Our Fifth Graders also have their first SOL Assessment this Thursday in Writing. Please encourage your student to get a good night's sleep, eat breakfast, and come to school on time that day.
The following week on the 21st-23rd, we will be running the Va Smiles Dental Clinic for students (more information below). On the 24th our first graders have their musical performance at 6:30pm for families.
Just a reminder from last month's newsletter... every minute in the classroom matters, and we appreciate your help in making sure students arrive ready to learn. School begins at 7:55am each day.
We love spending our days with your children and are committed to creating days that are safe, joyful, and full of learning!
Sincerely,
Christine Peterson, Seth Kennard, and Stephanie Provines

The Latest Shout Outs!
"LG has been a light in our child's life as they navigate overcoming a challenge in their speech. She is an unsung hero in the quiet support she provides to those who need it!!"
"I could not have asked for a better kindergarten teaching team! They both create a fun, interactive and supportive classroom for their students! I can tell each and every one of the kids in their classes feels special :). Thank you for the work you do and the energy you put into our kids!!"
"Ms Cafiero goes above and beyond to ensure her students are successful academically, socially, and emotionally. She makes sure she dedicates an extra, uninterrupted 10 minutes 1:1 with our son to read every single day (during her planning- those are precious minutes to give up!). She communicates with us to send home reading material to support him at home and sends us pictures go celebrate him when he is working hard in class. During his music performance for families, he felt extremely nervous and anxious. Without any hesitation, she stood behind him on stage to ease his mind and support him. She makes him feel seen, valued, special, loved, while holding firm, high standards- he’s so motivated and has grown so much this year thanks to her. We appreciate you very much Ms Cafiero! Thank you!!!"
"In spending a little time in the classroom this week, it was easy to see the benefits of the thoughtful structure Ms. Guyton promotes in her classroom. The kids knew what to expect, and the class was so organized and showed thoughtful listening skills for a group of Kindergarteners! :) It's clear to see the immense care that Ms. Guyton puts in to her work!"
"My daughter has expressed multiple times just how much Ms. Schutte helps her - and it's often with the silly little tasks (e.g. bathroom mishaps), but ones where she clearly feels vulnerable and is very much comforted by Ms. Schutte. In seeing her response when she saw Ms. Schutte at a recent school event, it's clear that she adores her and that Ms. Schutte cares so much about my daughter. In the scariness of sending a little one off to Kindergarten, it's heart warming to know that such kind and supportive people are making sure that every need is taken care of - and in a way that really build connections to the kids."
Meet our new School Nurse - Nurse Maddi
My name is Maddi Mills and I'm the new school nurse for Mountainview Elementary school! I have a background in emergency medicine and women's health. My husband and I have a child of our own along with one dog and one horse.
Springtime comes with new bumps, bruises, allergies and stomach bugs! Please know that due to county policy no over the counter medication can be given to your child UNLESS you bring in an unopened bottle of whatever kind of medication you wish your child to receive with their name on it and fill out/sign a medication form for the school. This can include but is not limited to children's Tylenol, Claritin, and ibuprofen. You can plan to do this now or at the beginning of this coming school year in August!
Please note that if you cannot, for whatever reason, fill out the form and have a medication here for your child we do have a small supply of children's ibuprofen and Tylenol here in the clinic; however, you will be required to physically come to school and give the medication to your child yourself. There are no exceptions for this in Albemarle county's policy at this time.
Earth Day Celebration!
Please join us at Mountain View on Wednesday, April 16th from 6:00-7:30 PM for a special event in celebration of Earth Day! Please eat dinner before or after the event, as there will not be food. Overflow parking will be available at the armory with bus transportation. Watch this cute student video for more information about the event! If you would like to volunteer for the even, please sign up here.
