Student Council Corner
Hello CVU! This is Mira. This week in Student Council we debriefed the Blood Drive, everyone saw a large improvement from last year in the speed, efficiency and overall feel of the event. Afterwards, we had an excellent presentation from the leaders of a new event at CVU: Cultural Awareness Week. Cultural Awareness Week’s intent is to educate students about culture and celebrate all the cultures at CVU and beyond. Each day there will be a theme such as music, art, literature and film, etc. that will guide how CVU will look at and understand culture. Throughout the week there will be activities, foods, creative endeavors and assemblies that students can participate in. This is expected to be an amazing event, and the leaders for it have been working very hard already. The group collaborated on next steps for this event and it is likely to happen later in April. Rene Sanchez was also present at our meeting and explained the importance of voting on an adapted budget. More information on this next week, but Student Council cannot stress enough that it is immensely important for people 18+ to vote. Have a great weekend.
Student Celebrations
Lilly Caputo has formally accepted an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA). She is pictured below with Senator Welch and Representative Balint receiving her nominations at the State House in December - Congratulations Lilly!
From Nick Canaday: Below are some photos of students on the band trip to Boston this past weekend! We visited the Blue Man Group and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, which was playing a concert featuring pieces inspired by folk tales and whimsy, such as Dvorak's The Noontime Witch.
From John Bennett: CVU's Scholars Bowl team ran its season record to 43-0 by winning the Vermont NAQT tournament held at Spaulding High School in Barre on Friday March 15.
The varsity team swept all 7 matches to win this particular tournament for the seventh time in its 18 year history. After winning its first 5 matches, the team defeated Burlington and South Burlington in the playoffs to claim the tournament championship. Our B team finished 8th overall and our C team finished as the novice bracket runner up. This victory gives us a sweep of the three major tournament events of our Vermont schedule for the first time in the same season.
Jacob Graham led all scorers in the tournament, with Elias Leventhal finishing 3rd in the varsity bracket. Leo Elder finished second in scoring in the novice bracket. The playoff win against Burlington also marked my 800th varsity coaching win in my 24 years at CVU.
CVU has one big challenge to meet before it can claim the Vermont state championship and a berth in the national championship. This will come on Saturday, April 6 in the playoff finals in Montpelier. We will also be playing for the JV state championship -both of our teams hold the top seed.
Playing for CVU Friday included the following team members-
12th grade - Elias Leventhal, Frank Fidler, Colin Ravlin
11th grade - Jacob Graham, Zoe Mui, Wylie Ricklefs, Dylan Elder, Leo Elder, Jackson Yager
10th grade - Leah Rauch, Charlie Redmond

From Charlie MacFadyen: Tuesday was the final Math League meet of the season. Fourteen schools were in attendance. We were edged out of 3rd place for the meet by Essex, but when the final standings were computed, we came out in 2nd place overall for the season, with South Burlington taking the top spot, and Essex third.
At this meet, the CVU team of Jacob Graham, Alyssa Hill, Clay Nicholson, Wylie Ricklefs, and Julia Shrier had the top score on the collaborative team test. CVU also had perfect individual papers by Jacob and Wylie.
After the meet came the presentation of individual awards for the season. CVU students claimed 5 of the 14 awards! Of the 223 students who competed this season, Wylie was the 6th place finisher overall. Elias Leventhal (who was not able to attend the last meet) was 3rd overall and was the winner in the Geometry category, and Jacob was 1st overall and the winner in the Advanced category.
Math League is about much more than competition. The camaraderie on the bus ride and at the meets is a joy to behold. Everyone contributes!
Congrats to all who participated in this last meet: Anna Dauerman, Leo Fleury, Jacob Graham, Ollie Guiterman, James Haines, Alyssa Hill, Gwenyth Irwin, Dan Knight, Georgia Knight, Veronica Miskavage, Clay Nicholson, Ava Nnochiri, Max Raynes, Wylie Ricklefs, Charlie Schramm, Henry Shrier, and Julia Shrier.
Thanks as always to Kiran MacCormick, to the Math Department, and to all of you for your support!

Faculty/Staff Celebrations
While we have until July to say our thanks, we would be remiss not to appreciate Superintendent Sanchez this week for his support of our CVU students these past three years. I snapped this picture in the Theater the day before a CVU graduation. Characteristic to his values, Rene is connecting with a student, behind the scenes, to make sure that her name is announced to her liking in the ceremony the next day. Thank you, Superintendent Sanchez.
From Daniel Lyons: A shout out to Olaf Verdonk for going the extra mile, and taking a bit of his planning time to work with Gabe Hough and Nugget Kelley to design and 3D print a few items. Thanks, Olaf!
