The Tonasket setting is rural with magnificent topography of mountains and valleys. The Okanogan River, part of the Columbia River system, flows through the town of Tonasket. There are many lakes in the area, some large and others quite small. The climate is best described as semi-arid with four definite seasons.

JOB DESCRIPTION
School Nurse
DEPARTMENT: District
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
WORK DAYS: 7 hours per day for 120 days
Position Summary: The school nurse implements, manages, and delivers school health services in the Tonasket schools. The School Registered Nurse scope of practice is defined by law and regulation and professional school nursing standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assesses and provides for the critical needs of the students in each school. Such as emergency plans for students with life-threatening medical conditions, medically fragile students, students with health concerns and/or requiring nursing treatments, and medication administration. Develop individualized care plans for these students, including (if nurse holds an RN license) training of unlicensed staff in the care of said students on a need-to-know basis.
Provides nursing consultation in communicable disease control and serves as a liaison between district and local public health departments.
Assesses students' physical and emotional health as related to the educational process and within the scope of school nurse practice; initiates referrals for further diagnosis and treatment of identified health needs and provides follow-up; communicates health concerns that may impact learning to appropriate staff, with parent and/or student consent.
Coordinates and implements health screenings mandated by law, including referral, charting, and follow-up.
Delegates, trains, and supervises medication administration and nursing treatments as allowed by law.
May provide health counseling and crisis intervention to students; serves as an advocate for the health rights of students and a professional liaison between the school, family, and health community.
Performs professional nursing tasks as indicated and assigned, including emergency services when on site.
Provides health education directly or in consultation with school staff to the extent determined by availability of time.
Provides nursing consultation regarding students in special education. Participates in MDT and 504 meetings for students with significant medical problems and assists in the initial development of IEPs as resources permit.
Cooperates with administrators and other staff to identify school safety and environmental health needs.
Participates in appropriate data collection as related to health care services.
Assists district administrators in writing and adopting school health services policies.
Develops plans for student care based on nursing assessment, including interventions, identification of outcomes, and evaluation of care:
Develops individual emergency plans (IEPs) for all students with life-threatening medical conditions;
Develops individual health plans (IHPs) for medically fragile students, students with health concerns and/or requiring nursing treatments or medication administration.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Duties are typically performed in a school setting, including a health room, classrooms, gyms, cafeteria, auditorium, and recreational areas. The school nurse may be required to regularly stand, walk, sit, use hands to fingers, handle or feel,
reach with hands, talk, and hear. Lifting up to 40 pounds and other limited physical activities are required. Occasional student movement via wheelchairs and mechanical devices.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
WA State RN License
MANDATORY CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Successful clearance of the FBI and Washington State Patrol fingerprint background check.
Successful Washington State Sexual Misconduct clearance.
Completion of Federal I-9, Employment Verification Eligibility form.
