Mrs. Mohr's Weekly Update
January 6-10th
Happy New Year! Welcome back! As we step into this new year, we are eager to continue building on the progress we've made together. Please check out the photos below! We had a fun and eventful December!! Winter break offered us all a chance to reflect, refocus, and reconnect with family and friends, and now we return with renewed energy to create meaningful learning experiences for our students.
High School students will be coming home with a Drop/Add form this week.
- If they would like their schedule to change for next semester, they should indicate what classes they are dropping/adding and have you sign it. They will turn it into the office by Friday, January 10th.
- If their schedule stays the same, they will not have to fill out a form.
Middle School Students: They may choose to go outside if it is above 0 degrees (real feel). But they MUST wear a coat, hat, and gloves.
Elementary Students: Please remember to pack snow pants, hats, gloves, and coats. We go outside if it is above 0 degrees (real feel).
Thank you for your continued support in making our school a place of growth, collaboration, and excellence. Together, let’s make this semester one of success and achievement for all!
-Mrs. Mohr

Class of 2025: Letters of Impact
Mrs. Terhark had her Senior Class write letters of gratitude to teachers that made a difference in their lives. Before Christmas break, each Senior read their letter to the person and gifted them with a t-shirt stating, "I have made an impact. WLHS Class of 2025". In the following weeks, I will share a quote from the Senior letter and a picture of the student and their teacher of influence. Thank you Mrs. Terhark and the Class of 2025 for their work on this cool project!
Sami and Mrs. Vig. "I will always cherish my time at Willow Lake School, and it all started in your classroom. I was just the scared little girl coming to school for the first time and you were the welcoming and comforting teacher I needed. Without the love you have for the students you teach; I don't think I would have been able to make it through my first year of school. You have always been an encouraging and inspiring person that truly cares for your students, and it doesn't go unnoticed."
Freshman Health

5th grade Elves
Each year, the last day before Christmas break, Mrs. Lori Hovde has her 5th grade students be "elves". They wear cheery elf attire and go around the school helping others. Fifth grader, Addy, helps 2nd grade students complete a breakout room.
Juniors Visit Levi
The Junior class traveled to Sioux Falls to visit Levi and bring him some cheery Christmas joy the week before break. While they couldn't see Levi face to face, they face timed him from the ground and made signs of encouragement for him!
Christmas Concert
Thank you to everyone who came to listen to our musicians at the Christmas concert! The students and directors did such a great job!!
Elementary Fun Day!
The student council planned and organized a Christmas Fun Day for elementary students. They served popcorn, hot chocolate, or water. Students could choose from a movie or game room. Students played battle ship, Uno, Apples to Apples, and Twister. Thank you to the Student Council and their advisor, Melissa Burke for all of their work setting up this fun day!
MS/HS Christmas Fun Day
The student council planned a Christmas Fun Day for the Middle and High School students on the last day of school before break. Students got to choose from going bowling, watching a movie, or playing games.
Wrestling
The wrestling team was busy over break. They wrestled in Sioux Falls, McCook/Central, and Webster. At Webster, the team placed 1st out of 17 teams!
Cell Phones
With the cold temperatures, if you or your child would no longer like to leave their phone in their car, they will need to come and talk to Mrs. Mohr to get their key.

Plus, an application ‘tips and tricks’ info session, a walking campus tour, and a chance to win $500 campus cash. Attendees will be ready to GO for it!
**If your student will be attending this, please let Mrs. Mohr know as it can be counted as a college visit.
Thoughts from Erica: Levi's blood counts aren't where they need to be for the bone marrow biopsy or to start the next round of chemo so the biopsy and his re-admittance to the hospital has been pushed back to this Friday, January 3rd. This past round has taken his blood counts the longest to recover which the doctor said is common for round 4 and his staph infection most likely delayed his recovery as well. We are praying that his biopsy shows another decrease in cancer cells.
This next round starting on Friday will be his LAST round of chemo and he will receive high dose cytarabine on days 1 & 2, have a break for a bit and then high dose cytarabine again on days 8 & 9 through his Broviac. Previously he's only ever received his chemo through his Broviac, which is a central line that goes directly to his heart, but this time he will also receive shots of Rylaze in his legs. Levi has never been a fan of shots so he wasn't too excited to hear about that, but there's only four shots total - 2 in each leg.
Praying for an uneventful round this time without infection or any complications. Many times in previous rounds when Levi's doing well the doctors have told Levi to "keep being boring" so we will pray for boring 🧡.

Thoughts from Erica: Mission accomplished: Round four complete and out before Christmas! They are going to load him up with platelets and then he's out of here. His bone marrow biopsy and hospital readmittance for his last round is tentatively scheduled for December 31st. His blood counts need to be at a certain level for the biopsy and to start the next round so if his counts aren't high enough they will reschedule for a few days later.
Thank you all for your support throughout this journey - we are incredibly grateful to be surrounded by people who pray without ceasing and who cheer Levi on as loud and strong as he does for his sports teams. "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 🧡. Merry Christmas!

Thoughts from Erica: What a day! Levi's classmates stopped by this morning and made his day 🧡. They brought signs to help encourage him and were able to chat over Facetime while they were here. He was able to look out his window and had the perfect view. He also received a visit from the Chick-fil-A cow who brought chicken sandwiches for lunch - yum!
Pastor Colin visited late last week and Levi always enjoys his visits since they are filled with music and singing. They sang and played some worship and Christmas songs, checked in with each other and prayed.
Levi's ANC is currently 13 so he's making some progress in that department. Like previous months they would like his ANC to be 250 before he goes home. All of his blood cultures ended up being negative and he's been feeling much better so the antibiotics did their job. We are just waiting for his ANC level to go up and his platelet count to hold steady as he's needed platelets about every other day. The goal is still for him to be out of the hospital by Christmas.
One of Levi's personal goals is to finish up his last round and make it to a Cyclone basketball game towards the end of the season. Levi's looking forward to watching and cheering the team on tonight vs De Smet - go Cyclones 🏀.
