Mac El Weekly News
August 16, 2024
From the Principal
We've successfully completed week two and it was busy with practicing routines and expectations, taking school pictures, fire drill, and so much more. All of these things are important as our goal at Mac El is to create a safe, respectful, and responsible learning environment where every Mac El Brave can thrive.
To make the most of our precious classroom time, we’re working on speeding up our breakfast routine. Now that students have their ID badges, they will go straight to breakfast from the bus and scan their ID in the cafeteria, making the process so much faster. We know mornings can be hectic, so we appreciate your help in reminding your child to:
- Head straight to the cafeteria for breakfast
- Quickly scan their ID
- Return to class ready to learn
By working together, we can ensure our students have a smooth start to their day and maximize their learning opportunities. Thank you for your continued support and have a great weekend!

STEM in our School
Chemical Reactions - A fun way to learn Classroom Procedures and Expectations
Butterfly pea tea is known for its cobalt blue color, which changes depending on the pH level of the drink. The tea's blue-purple color comes from a pigment called anthocyanin, which is found in the butterfly pea flowers. When the flowers are added to hot water, the pigment dissolves into the water and creates the blue tea.
Adding an acid, like lemon or vinegar causes a chemical reaction that changes the color to purple. Then adding baking soda makes it foam and change back to blue.
While working on learning classroom procedures and rules during the week so the experiment was fun to do while practicing the classroom procedures.
Student Council - 4th & 5th grade students
What is student council? Mac El Student Council is a group of representatives who have been selected by their classmates to promote good citizenship at Maconaquah Elementary. We will have 6 students from each grade level. The voting will be grade level wide! The Student Council is a group of students who respect all individuals in the school and community, share ideas to make our school the best it can be, help students work together at Mac El, and serve the students and staff to make it a better place to learn and work!
Who can be in student council? Any 4th or 5th grade student who wishes to be a part of student council at Mac El must fill out a Letter of Understanding, and have a parent sign their agreement. Then students can campaign. Students in the group must be hardworking, good citizens, responsible, and respectful. You must turn in one completed teacher recommendation form. You can not have any discipline referrals from the bus or school to be a member of student council.
Interested students attended an informational meeting with Mr. Warnock today. They were given informational sheets with items to be completed, as well as due dates. Please read the information carefully and do not miss the deadlines.
