PICTURES & NEWS
EXPLORERS BIKE HELMET HEALTH CLASS
Ms. Robinson invited Mr. Moretti from the organization Local Motion to teach all the third graders about bike helmet safety. This plan worked out well as Moretti is a very animated instructor who knows how to interest kids and pass on information in a way they are happy to absorb. His teaching method involves patient engagement from everyone as he asks loads questions and shares kid-level information. By the end of each class on Thursday students clearly felt entertained, affirmed, and fairly treated. It is a good bet that most of the third graders will end up using a helmet when riding/rolling in their neighborhoods and/or traveling to school.
During the lesson students...
- ...watched a video about a boy who experienced a bad brain injury while biking
- ...saw what happened to a brain made of gelatin when dropped in a helmet or a glass jar
- ...saw what happened to eggs dropped from a height of two feet with and without protection
BFA ADVISORS VISITED WITH SACS 8TH GRADERS
Eighth graders were divided into four groups based on last names. Each group met in a different location around the building to go through informational folders about their upcoming year as freshman at BFA. Students learned about required and optional courses as well as all the club, music, drama and sport opportunities that exist at our local high school.
INCREDIBLES VOTED FOR THEIR TEAM REPRESENTATIVES
The Incredibles gathered the whole team so that they could hear their candidates for vice president and president. After their short and well rehearsed speeches, students were given ballots to complete and submit. The whole process took about 20 minutes - a model of efficiency.
CLIMATE COMMITTEE
Our group is expanding and we are planning on more initiatives in the coming months to heighten our awareness of climate change and what we can do about it. 11-29-2023
EVENTS OR OPPORTUNITIES
SKIING OPPORTUNITY FOR 6TH-8TH GRADERS
Jay Peak Season’s Pass
We will have a limited number of Jay Peak Season’s Passes for students in grades 6-8. These will be useful for families that ski. Discounted equipment rentals are available. Transportation to and from the mountain is NOT included. Yet, for students that will have access to use this pass, we want to make it available.
Any student that would like to have access to a pass and feels they will be able to make use of it, please write a letter of request to Mr. Craib and explain how you are a Safe, Achieving, Caring member of our school community. Mr. Craib will create the list that goes to Jay Peak. Pass award letters will be given to each qualified student. The deadline for letters of request is Friday December 8th.
