Teacher Appreciation Week May 6-10
This is Teacher Appreciation Week. Please take the time to thank a teacher for what they do. It can be your scholar's current or past teacher or a teacher you once had. You may want to thank a teacher you've seen doing great things. Whatever the connection, a thank you will brighten up a teacher's day.
Teacher of the Year and Support Staff Member of the Year
Congratulations to Ms. Haney for being voted Teacher of the Year and Ms. Wade for being voted Support Staff Member of the Year. You are making a difference with staff and students!
NWEA Starts This Week
End of the Year NWEA testing begins on Monday. This test will measure your scholar's growth from the beginning of the year until now. Please be sure that your scholars are at school, on time, everyday to increase their chances of high achievement.
Students' Intent to Return Forms are Due
We are still accepting Intent to Return forms next school year. Whether your scholars are returning or not, please return the form this week. We are preparing for next year and need a student body count to account for hiring more teachers, getting in--school or afterschool programs, and knowing if we need to open more classrooms.
Be a Buddy not a Bully
The anti-bullying assembly for grades 4-8 has been rescheduled for Thursday, May 9 at 8:30am. Mr. Counts has scheduled this program to teacher scholars the characteristics of bullying and what they can do to stop it.
Summer Advantage Applications
There is still space for scholars to sign up for the Summer Advantage Program at DCP Redford. All scholars are eligible to attend. Paper applications are available in the main office. Encourage any families that want to attend to apply. The deadline to apply is May 13.
New Staff Members: Ms. Gray and Ms. Johnson
We want to welcome our newest staff member, Ms. Gritiana. She will be working in the middle school as a 1 on 1 Paraprofessional. Her first day was last Monday.
We also want to welcome Ms. Stacey Johnson (no relation) as our new Operations Manager. She begins Monday, May 6.
Summer Reading Lists Available
We have a suggested reading list for scholars to explore over summer vacation. The lists are divided by grade bands: one for K-2, one for grades 3-5, and one for 6-12. They are available outside of the front office.
Little Ceasar's Fundraiser
LiveSchool
LiveSchool is our behavior management system that is used to monitor and track scholar behavior, both negative and positive. Scholars can earn prizes for positive behavior. Parents should be receiving notifications when infractions are entered into the system. This will allow you to stay on top of your child's behavior. If you have any questions regarding LiveSchool, please contact Mr.Counts at (313)543-3226.
