Caldwell School District Update
From Superintendent Dr. N. Shalene French
April 17, 2025
MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
School is important and attending school daily is an essential habit. Throughout this school year, our teachers have created class cultures of collaboration, scientific inquiry, and scholastic engagement. It is essential that your child is a part of their learning community daily as they continue gaining knowledge and self-confidence as learners. Building a strong habit of attending school is foundational for a child's future success as a learner, an adult, a parent, an employee, an employer, a neighbor, and a community member.
DID YOU KNOW?
• Students should miss no more than 9 days of school each year to stay engaged, successful and on track to graduation.
• Frequent absences can be a sign that a student is losing interest in school, struggling with school work, dealing with a bully, or facing some other difficulty.
• By 6th grade, absenteeism is one of three signs that a student may drop out of high school.
• By 9th grade, attendance is a better predictor of graduation rates than 8th grade test scores.
• Missing 10%, or 2 days a month, over the course of the school year, can affect a student’s academic success. (AttendanceWorks.org)
Every day of school is an important opportunity for students to learn and connect with their friends and their teachers. If your family or your child needs support, please reach out to your school principal or counselor for help.
We appreciate your commitment to the Caldwell School District community. Thank you for allowing us to serve your children.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SPOTLIGHT
Syringa Middle School is introducing a new school-wide initiative: PRIDE! Each letter represents the core values they strive to uphold every day:
🔹 P for Perseverance
🔹 R for Responsibility
🔹 I for Integrity
🔹 D for Determination
🔹 E for Empathy
To bring PRIDE to life, Syringa launched a five week “That’s So Cougar!” spotlight - celebrating students and staff who embody the PRIDE values. This spotlight ran from Monday, March 10th through Friday, April 18th. Each week, teachers and students focused on one PRIDE value.
Encourage your student to get caught showing PRIDE because “That’s So Cougar!”

WELCOME TO THE UNALTERED STATE
Watch the Full Documentary
Welcome to the Unaltered State explores the stark realities facing Idaho's youth today -- easily accessible illicit substances and a youth mental health crisis. It also shines a hopeful light on the organizations and people in Idaho who are working hard on upstream prevention -- focusing on the reasons why youth turn to drugs in the first place and strengthening families, schools, and communities.
