Working and Learning
WELCOME TO KINDERGARTEN
ELA . This week, we will continue to focus on weather. WWhat kind is experienced around the world? How can we stay safe and prepare for wild weather?
We will begin learning digraphs. A digraph is a pair of letters that represent a single sound or a combination of sounds that is different from the usual values of the letters. We have introduced the digraph for -ck like in duck., /sh/, /th/ and /ch/. We will be introducing /wh/ and /ph/. Consider making flash cards to review letter names, sounds and sight words at home.
PHONICS We use a program called HEGGERTY. This is a 10 minute daily activity that will help your child begin to read.
MATH We are introducing 2D and 3D shapes..
Students will continue to practice fluency using different strategies. Students will need to understand what to do when looking at + or -. They will then need to know how to solve a number sentence. We will also focus on word problems to improve language and problem solving skills.
During math, we do a whole lesson group that is for everyone. After the lesson, the students work in small groups based on their level. The students also practice math daily through the Freckle app. These apps are individualized for each student. Students should take their time to think about their answer before clicking.
HOMEWORK PACKETS: Every Monday your child will come home with a homework packet for the week. This packet is due back the following Monday. You only need to return the signed top copy. School supplies were left in your child's clear backpack to use for homework.
