Dear Families,
Thank you for the tender cards, delicious treats and beautifully decorated mystery seed pots. The care put into Teacher Appreciation Week each year is so thoughtful. We truly thrive on your support. Thank you.
Grand Friends Tea - Next Friday (5/17, 1:50) is our first Grand Friends Tea since the spring of 2019! After sending invitations home with the children, it dawned on me that it’s a brand new event for many of you, one that begs more of a description. The tea is specifically for your child’s grandparents or grand friends.. If your child has grandparents or grand friends, please invite them and rsvp to Samantha.
No worries if your child does not have someone to invite. Several elders from the community are also invited and we will match them with children who do not have a grandfriend to invite. We ask that parents not come as their child’s guest. This has been a warm and wonderful event in the past for the children, guests and Weybridge Community. Let me know if you have questions.
FOWE has published a sign-up genius response form for volunteers to help serve and or make tea cookies and sandwiches.
Exhibition - 5th graders did an excellent job of presenting their inquiry projects this past Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. I hope many of you can join us for the Exhibition Gallery Walk this coming Monday (5/13, 1:50) when all of the 4/5 students will share their inquiry projects related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Come and learn!
Summer School/Supplemental Instruction - WES will once again be offering a summer program for students who demonstrate the need for supplemental instruction in math and/or literacy over the summer. Courtney Aucoin, our academic interventionist, will be providing the instruction. Eligibility will be determined using FAST scores and mid-year progress report levels of proficiency. Based on this data, we will be in touch with you if your student is eligible for the summer program. You are welcome to contact me regarding your child's eligibility. The program will run TWTh, July 8-August 1. (Note: Special Education summer services will be provided on the same dates.)
From the district office: ACSD Equity Update & Listening Circles - This fall, ACSD worked with Dr. Rebecca Eunmi Haslam to address issues of racial equity at MUMS and MUHS through a confidential study called The Listening Circles Project. Now we are extending her work to our elementary school students and staff.
The goal of the Listening Circles Project is to hear directly from students and staff about what we can do to eliminate racial harm and ensure everyone feels safe and valued at school. All students and staff at our elementary schools are invited to participate. To participate you must read and fill out this consent form (parents/guardians fill it out on behalf of their child.) A listening circle for students will be held at WES, May 21, 8:15am, so please fill out the form as soon as possible if you would like your child to participate. Parents of elementary students who participate will also have an opportunity to meet with Dr. Haslam at another time.
As part of her work with secondary students and staff, Dr. Haslam is finalizing a report and recommendations for the ACSD administration. The elementary portion of this work will also result in a report and recommendations. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us as ACSD works to make all students and staff feel safe and valued.
NEASC Visit - As part of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) accreditation process, a team member visited Weybridge Thursday morning. He toured the school, observed classes, met with the 4/5 students and with the teachers. It was a lovely, relaxed visit. On Wednesday, Sylvie Doutriaux participated in a district wide parent conversation with the team. The NEASC accreditation process is aligned with the International Baccalaureate reauthorization process. Both organizations will be in district visiting schools several times during the 2024-25 school year.
After school Capoeira - The first session went very well. FOWE is sponsoring a weekly program with Professor Fua on following Wednesdays—May 15th through June 5th, 2:45 - 4:15. This is open to all students with all costs covered by FOWE. Thanks go to Jamie McCallum for organizing this. If your child would like to participate and has not signed up, please send in the attached permission form which includes emergency contact and pickup information. Students are asked to bring a light snack and water bottle.
We do need a parent who has been cleared to volunteer in the school to attend each session. Here is the link to sign up. Thanks to Pete Wilhelm for volunteering for the first session.
Lunch volunteers - We had full coverage this week! Thank you. We need help Monday, Wednesday, Thursday next week. Please email me cjohnston@acsdvt.org or sign up directly here if you can help with lunch prep and service, 11:00-12:00 Folks have begun to sign up for days through the end of school. That’s tremendously helpful. Thanks.
Enjoy the weekend. Christina

Weybridge Eco-Fair
