Your Child's Lifelong Attendance Habits Start Now

Chronic absenteeism is considered a hidden educational crisis in the U.S.

Throughout this first month of school, strive for your child to have perfect attendance (unless, of course, your child falls ill).

Although some children experience anxiety around coming to school, especially in the early weeks of the school year, it is important to keep bringing them, each and everyday- because it WILL become easier for them! Succumbing to that anxiety lays the groundwork for your child to become chronically absent. If your child is nervous about coming to school and is giving you a "run for your money" in the mornings this month, don't hesitate to give us a call and we can try to help.

Children with good attendance (9 or fewer days absent per year) typically:

*Maintain quality friendships

*Are less anxious about school

*Are more confident

*Are higher achieving

*GRADUATE!

*Experience success in the work force and in LIFE!

Remember, all absences count toward chronic absenteeism, even if you call the attendance line or provide documentation.

In Fraser, we continue to work hard to decrease chronic absenteeism- which in turn benefits ALL students!

Ellie's Extravaganza, Our Fall Fun Run, is Friday, September 27

Again this year, our PTO is hosting Ellie's Extravaganza- our fall Fun Run! This is, by far, our biggest fundraising event of the year. This year, our goal is to raise $15,000. In order to do so, we're encouraging all families to try to raise at least $50.00 for our school. The funds raised will be used to help fund school activities, recess/play equipment, the school store, and more!

On Wednesday, students will receive the information to officially kick off our fundraiser. If you'd like to get started early, with setting up your child's account on FundHub, please utilize the link and school identifier below!

Thank you, in advance, for your support with this important fundraising event!

Volunteers Needed!

Our Ellie's Extravaganza: Fall Fun Run Event will take place on Friday, September 27. Students should dress for the weather, wearing their grade level shirts/colors. They should wear comfortable running shoes and active wear, and bring extra socks and a water bottle labeled with their name.

During this event, we welcome parent/family spectators to bring a lawn chair and help to cheer on our Eagles, during the running loop only. Families should only plan to stay for the duration that their own children are running. The inflatables and dance stations will not have spectators. Please see attached image for event schedule.

We need volunteers to help make this event a success! If you're able to volunteer, please click the link below to sign up for a time slot. Please make sure you have a background check on file for this school year. If you have not yet submitted the background check, you may stop in the office to complete it or give us a call and we can send the form home with your child: 586-439-6500.

Our Edison Safety Patrol is Working Hard Our Edison Safety Patrol is Working Hard

We're Proud of our Safeties!

Edison 5th and 6th grade students work hard on Safety Patrol, which is led by Mrs. Frazier and Mrs. Ruhl.

The job of a safety is to help keep all of the Edison students safe both coming to school and on their way home. Some of their duties include helping students cross the street before and after school, as well as helping them lineup while they wait for the day to begin.

Mrs. Frazier says, “The students are doing a great job and it is exciting watching them take on leadership roles while helping others.” At the end of the year students apply to be a safety and they begin their assigned post the second day of school. Rhett Kapanka says, “Helping kids stay safe at the stop sign and greeting kids with a smile in the morning and afternoon” is his favorite part of the job.

As a safety, their jobs take place on both beautiful days and days where they might rather stay bundled up inside! We are excited to watch them grow as leaders this year as they take on this new role.

Parking Lot Reminders Parking Lot Reminders

Please Do Not Park/Idle/Stop in Marked Areas

  • Unfortunately, we don’t have a “bus loop” at Edison, which also limits our ability for a curbside drop off/pick up lane. Our transportation department needs us to stop stopping/parking/idling in the areas marked with a red 'x' (essentially, every turn/curve of the lot) because the busses cannot get through.

  • Please park in a designated parking spot at arrival and dismissal, while you wait to drop off/pick up your children.

  • All Y5-2nd grade students must be picked up by an adult at their doors.

  • 3rd-6th grade students are dismissed out their doors and may navigate the parking lot as their parents see fit. Please note, our staff does our best to help kids cross when possible, but we do not have designated crossing guards in our lot. The safest option will always be for parents to park, walk up, drop off/retreive their child(ren), and navigate the lot with their child(ren).

  • At dismissal time, please don’t sit idle in driving lane while waiting for your student.

CARE of Southeast Michigan

CARE is a resource in our community that helps families and individuals who are experiencing difficulties with mental health or substance abuse. CARE's Student Assistance program offers families the opportunity to receive a thorough assessment for children who are experiencing mental health issues. CARE will then provide resources to assist with concerns. CARE also is a great place to attend parenting classes for Early Childhood through Teen. Speciality classes related to anger management and play and learn groups for younger children are also programs provided through CARE. For more information or for a referral to CARE's Student Assistance program please contact our social workers, Mrs. Gonsler or Ms. Hasselle, or contact CARE at 586-541-CARE.

Attendance

Your child's lifelong school/work attendance habits are being deeply established right now. Parents should make every effort to get their child to school by 8:30AM each day and allow them to stay for the full duration of every day. Excessive absences, tardies, and early dismissals hugely impact a child's confidence, social interactions, and school performance.

Birthday Treats

Birthday students may bring store-bought, individually wrapped treats/snacks or trinkets to distribute to their classmates to be taken home. Please do not send in a tray of cupcakes, homemade baked goods, pizza, etc intending for them to be consumed at school- as many students have dietary restrictions that need to be closely monitored by their parents & school staff. All treats/trinkets will be sent home with students.

Cell Phones

Parents- We will definitely need your ongoing help and reinforcement with this one! Cell phones need to be silenced/powered down and secured in student backpacks from 8:30AM-3:30PM. Students may utilize cell phones before or after school hours. Students may not record or photograph others on school property or on school-provided transportation.

Hot Food Deliveries

Please do not plan to drop off "hot lunches" for your child at lunch time. This includes parents/family members dropping off fast food and/or Door Dashing food for their children. It is very logistically challenging to ensure that your child receives the food delivery on time and often results in students spending much of their lunch period awaiting a delivery.

The State of Michigan will provide a free breakfast and lunch for all students who want them throughout the 2024-2025 school year. Although not required, we do ask that families complete the Education Benefit Form located HERE. By doing so you help ensure the school receives additional funding.
