The faculty and staff of Dauphin Island Elementary School want to say a huge THANK YOU to all of our parents and families for allowing us the privilege of working with your child each day. We are truly thankful and grateful!

• December 6 - Boating Safety Class for Students - sponsored by the AL Law Enforcement Agency Marine Patrol Division
• December 17 - Sea Lab Field Trip - K, 1st, and 2nd
• December 18 - Class Christmas Parties ( More information will be sent home from teacher)
• December 20 - Nutcracker Ballet Field Trip - 3rd, 4th, and 5th
• December 23 - January 3 - Christmas Holidays
• January 6 - Students Return - 3rd Quarter Begins

• Students who are chronically absent score lower on standardized tests and have poorer overall academic achievement.
• Chronic absenteeism in early grades correlates with lower cognitive skills in early childhood and poorer academic performance at age 15.
• Missing just 10% of school days (about 18 days in a 180-day school year) can negatively affect a student's academic performance.
• Poor attendance can influence whether children read proficiently by the end of third grade.
• Students unable to read proficiently by third grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school.
