Curriculum and Assessment Updates
IXL Learning allows teachers to enter a student's most recent NWEA MAP scores as diagnostic data. This score then determines an individualized Skills Plan, providing repetitive practice of various grade level standards. The program is being utilized as a student goal setting resource in both buildings.
New IXL Learning Integration Plan for the Jr./Sr. High School
Advisory Rotation
As a result of One Plan goals and current ATSI designation, RULH Jr./Sr. High School will be requiring all teachers assigned an Advisory period/group to implement the following weekly rotation. This rotation was developed collaboratively among TBTs and administration to ensure consistent implementation. This plan will ensure that all teachers assume accountability for the improvement of the four One Plan focus areas: 1) attendance, 2) Career Pathway Portfolios, 3) Math growth/achievement, and 4) ELA growth/achievement.
Assessment Incentives Plan
To promote student engagement in academics during Advisory periods, an incentives plan is being drafted. This is only a DRAFT. NOTE: In addition to these building-wide incentives, teachers may also choose to offer class/grade level incentives for their contents with respect to IXL, MAP, etc.
WINTER DISTRICT ASSESSMENTS
- All students in grades K-6 completed mid-benchmark assessments for Aimsweb (reading and math).
- All students in grades 2-12 completed mid-benchmark assessments for NWEA MAP (reading, math, and science). Grades 2-3 also use the Language assessment to monitor writing improvement.
- RIMP (Reading Improvement and Monitoring Plans)
- MTSS (Multi-tiered Support Systems) monitoring and placement for Tiers I, II, and III (intervention)
- Students with Disabilities progress toward IEP goals
- Student measure for the district One Plan (reported to the state)
- Additional data for MTSS process
- Project student proficiency/success on the state assessments
- Develop individualized student growth goals (RIT scores) to close the gap on state assessments
- Create individual student Skills Plans in IXL Learning
DISTRICT GOALS
Ohio's Department of Education and Workforce (previously ODE-Ohio Department of Education) requires all public school districts to assess themselves using data and root cause analyses to determine the needs of the district for improvement. The needs are developed into SMART goals with student and adult measures as well as action steps for reaching those measures/goals over the course of a three-year period. RULH is in the second year of the three-year implementation period. During our TBT, BLT, and DLT meetings, we have been developing a system for tracking the progress and implementing strategies aligned to the goals.
District SMART Goal 1
Adult Actions for 2023:
1) The building will begin the process of researching a Career Pathway plan for students in grades 8-12. The instructional coach will lead the HS BLT in examining various evidence based programs prior to choosing one.
2) High school students in the traditional setting (e.g. those not in CCP or at the local CTC), will attend an advisory period each day. The advisor will review Progress Book data with each student on a weekly basis, and provide guidance on maintaining passing grades in each course.
3) Parents will be actively contacted to attend a building wide meeting to learn more about the Career Pathway Portfolio. This will initially be done for students in grades 8-9. This will be done by using multiple means of communication. For those who do not physically attend such informational meetings, an overview video presentation on the district’s website will be made available.
District SMART Goal 2
Adult Actions for 2023:
1) Teachers in all three buildings will receive additional PD in the use of the Gradual Release Model of Responsibility. They will also have the opportunity to have the district’s instructional coach to provide them modeling opportunities, as well as direct feedback in how to use the strategy.
2) Building level administrators will compile walk-through data of what instructional strategy(ies) are being used in the classroom at that precise time. Such data will be shared with the teachers during BLT and DLT meetings in an effort to increase the use of evidence based strategies, and to reduce the use of ineffective methods. The goal will be that the data reveals that such strategies are being used at least 50% of the time.
Career Pathways Portfolio
The high school TBTs (Teacher Based Teams) are developing a plan that requires each student to engage in multiple career-based activities (research, self-assessments, job shadowing, etc.) and develop documents for their portfolios. Students in grades 8-12 will have specific requirements to fulfill with respect to those career-based activities. As a result, students will graduate with a ready-to-use portfolio to acquire a position in the workforce. In addition, planning is being correlated with the Brown County Business Advisory Council (BAC) to develop partnerships with area businesses and other county high schools to ensure all of our students leave informed and prepared for the world of work.
The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (DEW, formally ODE) has established a Career Connections Framework as well as Exiting Student Data Collection expectations. Use these links for more information:

POSITIVE BEHAVIORAL INTERVENTIONS & SUPPORTS
District PBIS Team
RULH has created a district-level PBIS team. The purpose of the team is to ensure that both buildings are implementing PBIS per state requirements and data reporting occurs accurately. In addition, the Ohio PBIS Network and State Support Teams are identifying districts that exemplify best practices in the implementation of the initiative. A recognized district demonstrates best practices within its system and is open and transparent in the sharing of their knowledge and resources with other districts.
PBIS Award level districts have easily identifiable characteristics and are consistent in their methods of: 1) maintaining organized team based planning, 2) maintaining high levels of administrative involvement and support, and 3) systematically collecting, reviewing, and applying data using a problem-solving process. These districts do a superior job of enhancing their school climates and cultures in support of their school, students, and academic achievement. These districts recognize that improvement in student behavior and achievement within their schools requires changes in adult behavior and in district and school systems.

RULH hopes to be a recognized district for the 2023-24 school year!!!
SECTION 504
We are in hopes of gaining board approval of the document as our district compliance handbook on November 16th.
GIFTED EDUCATION
Utilizing the most recent NWEA MAP scores (winter assessment), more students may be identified as gifted. Any student scoring in 95th or above percentile in a specific content (only math and reading are permitted to be used for identification), will be identified Specific Academic Gifted. These additional students will be determined by the close of the week of January 8, 2024.
